Governor John Bel Edwards leaves today for an economic development mission in Europe, along with a delegation of Louisiana business and health sciences leaders. The Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Eric Holl, says one of the first stops will be the internationally famous Paris Air Show…:

In addition, Edwards will visit Hasselt, Belgium to meet with bioscience and health business leaders. Holl says representatives of LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center will attend, along with delegates from Baton Rouge Health, Tulane and other state universities…:

This is the Governor’s 4th overseas junket in 18 months. Holl says the overall objective is bringing more economic diversity to Louisiana and the good-paying jobs that come with it. He says these economic development trips have borne fruit for the state many times before…:

Governor Edwards is expected to return to Louisiana June 24th.  Louisiana leads the USA in overseas investments per capita.

It’s going to be scorching hot this weekend but taking small measures can protect your pets from heatstroke. LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Spokesperson Ginger Guttner says pet owners should be mindful of a pet’s essential needs during the summer heat.

A dog’s normal body temperature ranges between 99 degrees and 102 degrees. An increase of three degrees can lead to heat-related illnesses. Guttner says there are noticeable signs of heatstroke in pets.

Cut 8 (13) “…your veterinarian.’”

Pet owners should avoid jogging or biking with their dogs during midday hours because the pavement can burn the dog’s pads. And never leave pets in hot cars even for a few minutes. If your pet display signs of heatstroke, Guttner suggests…

Guttner also recommends adjusting your pet’s exercise level according to their age, breed, and body condition.

As Tiger Nation descends on Omaha for the College World Series, local watering holes say they are prepared for the invasion and extremely excited to welcome one of their favorite fanbases back. Jack Barrett, Manager of Barrett’s Barleycorn Pub & Grill says since LSU’s last appearance in 2017, it just hasn’t been the same.

Joe Wells, co-owner of Annie’s Irish Pub says a lot has changed in the last six years. What was a parking lot the last time LSU visited is now an entertainment district. He says the Capitol District Area has several restaurants and bars.

And because LSU fans are known to put back a few, both bars say they have plenty of alcohol ready for Purple and Gold revelers. Barrett says when his staff watched the Kentucky game, they all cheered when LSU advanced to the College World Series.  He says there’s just something special about Tiger fans.

Dual enrollment has a positive impact on high school students and a recent report by the Louisiana Board of Regents shows an increase in early college credits. Louisiana Board of Regents Assistant Commissioner for Strategic Planning and Student Success Mellynn Baker says they aggressively monitor the program as part of its strategy to increase participation.

Following a small drop in enrollments during the 2019-20 school year, the number of students taking dual enrollment courses at public colleges and universities increased by 11% over the past two years despite the pandemic. Baker says there’s higher participation in Central and North Louisiana school systems.

Different eligibility requirements are required for academic and technical courses. Baker says students can learn how to participate online.

LSU will face Tennessee on Saturday night in the opening round of the College World Series. The Tigers took two of three from the Volunteers at the end of March. D-1 baseball-dot-com’s Kendall Rogers says the Vols pitching has improved since then

Wake Forest is the number one seed in the tournament and they’ve been dominant in winning their Regional and Super Regional. The Tigers could play the Demon Deacons on Monday and Rogers says they will be tough to beat…

The Saints completed mini-camp yesterday and now will take some time off until the start of training camp in late July.  Coach Dennis Allen says looking ahead to camp there will be some position battles to watch
