A bill to allow a sexual assault victim, if requested, to receive a copy of their forensic medical exam is scheduled to be heard in the Louisiana Senate today. Franklinton Senator Beth Mizell says she was shocked to learn this was even an issue after hearing testimony from former LSU students who claimed they were sexually assaulted.

Mizell’s measure says a copy must be provided to the patient no later than 14 days after the request is received.

The legislation has passed out of a Senate committee, but Fields is still working on the wording of the legislation to make sure consumers get relief, while also trying to not punish cable and internet providers.
