A Baton Rouge cop has been arrested for a domestic violence incident that happened 4 months ago. BRPD says, after an investigation they arrested Officer Michael Mitchell for domestic abuse battery with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault and malfeasance. Mitchell’s on administrative leave pending an Internal Affairs investigation.

Now that Republican state Representative Richard Nelson has entered the governor’s race, all eyes turn to District 6 Congressman Garret Graves. Among potential candidates from the Republican side, Graves has yet to give any indication whether he will or won’t run, despite a number of supporters asking him to do so. LSU political science professor Robert Hogan says Graves has to make sure he has the resources…:

At the moment, the Republican candidates for governor are Attorney General Jeff Landry. Treasurer John Schroder, state senator Sharon Hewitt and now Nelson. Lake Charles Attorney Hunter Lundy says he’ll run for as an independent. No Democrats have yet declared they will run.

More troubles for New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell: a new court filing accuses her of having an extramarital affair with a member of her security team. Cantrell was seen on security video on numerous occasions, coming and going from a French Quarter apartment with NOPD officer Jeff Vappie. Vappie’s wife refers to Cantrell as “Mrs. L.C.” in the filing, but says her husband admitted to having an affair with the mayor.

LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says Graves just won a fifth two-year term and is gaining seniority in the House…:

Police in New Iberia confirm they have arrested a suspect in Monday’s shooting death of a local teen. The young male’s body was found behind a local apartment complex. The suspect is reportedly just 14-years-old. Neither the suspect nor the victim’s names have been released as yet, because they are both minors.

Another Republican has declared their candidacy for governor. Mandeville Representative Richard Nelson is also the youngest candidate in the race at the age of 36. In addition to his one term in the legislature, Nelson says he brings seven years of experience working in the foreign service to the table.

Nelson is a proponent of tax reform and elementary education. A graduate of LSU Law School, the Mandeville native also graduated top of his class in Biological Engineering. In addition to representing the 89th District, Nelson runs his own consulting firm. In 2021 Nelson authored a bill to legalize the recreational use of marijuana, tax and regulate it.  Even though he says he’s never used it he’s for legalizing cannabis.

The former Eagle Scout and his wife Ashley have three boys. Nelson says he’s a moderate Republican and that sets him apart from other state leaders who are stuck in the past.

After being shot the victim ran home for help and paramedics responded to a neighborhood off Sherwood Forest Boulevard. McKneely says the incident did not happen on school grounds.

East Baton Rouge Parish Schools Superintendent Sito Narcisse says the victim was shot in his midsection.

Police in New Iberia confirm they have arrested a 14-year-old boy for the murder of another teen, who was found shot to death Monday behind an apartment complex. The victim is a boy between 14 and 16 years of age. Neither he nor the accused teen shooter have been identified as yet, because they are juveniles.

A new court filing accuses New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell of having an extramarital affair with a member of her security team.The wife of New Orleans police officer Jeffrey Vappie filed the amended divorce petition that claims that in November 2022, she became aware of an inappropriate relationship between her husband and a woman identified in court documents as “Mrs. L.C.” In the petition, Vappie’s wife says her husband admitted the adulterous affair to her. Experts say this could mean possible payroll fraud, malfeasance charges and more for the officer.

2022 saw record-breaking high rents. Jonas Bordo, co-founder of renters’ resource website “Dwellsy.com,” says rentals in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, 2 and 3 bedroom homes are up as much as 20-percent. He says rentals tend to be lower the farther one gets away from I-10.

LSU men’s basketball hosts 16th ranked Auburn tonight. Auburn is 4-and-1 in the SEC and the Bayou Bengals are 1-and-4. LSU is 11th in the SEC in points per game and 10th in shooting percentage. Another candidate has thrown his hat into the ring for the 2023 Governor’s Race. It’s first-term Republican Representative Richard Nelson of Mandeville who made the announcement this morning. At age 36 he becomes the youngest candidate so far.

Louisiana is in a property insurance crisis and legislative leaders are meeting with the governor’s office today about calling a special session with hopes of incentivizing other insurers to come here. But Jonesboro Representative Jack McFarland questions why they should be called in to address the issue when they haven’t for other markets, like the trucking industry when very few companies would even write policies in Louisiana..:
