The Coast Guard has rescued two people from a helicopter that went down yesterday in the Gulf, nearly 50-miles offshore from Morgan City. There were three people aboard; the pilot and two passengers. The body of the third person was found in the submerged chopper. The accident is under investigation.

 

A new study from Tulane University says a low-carb diet can cut dangerous blood sugar levels in those with pre-diabetes or mild diabetes. Tulane Assistant Professor of Epidemiology Kirsten Dorans says the results are the first indication that people who are not already being treated with medications that lower blood sugar can benefit from a low-carb diet alone…:

Saints Head Coach Dennis Allen announced that Andy Dalton will be the starting quarterback moving forward. Dalton took over the role after starter Jameis Winston exited earlier this year with back and ankle injuries suffered in week 2. In four starts. Dalton has thrown 946 yards, 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions, 3 of which came in last week’s loss to Arizona. Allen said he’ll keep the starting job as long as production continues, but Saints analyst Mike Detillier warned if the turnovers persist, Dalton could find himself back on the bench…

Announcer Matt Reynolds said prior to the altercation, Carrol coaches were told numerous times by fans and Sheriff deputies to stop using profanity. An intense shoving match took place after officers tried to escort the coaches out the stadium. Reynolds said the match lasted several minutes but is more disappointed that this event will overshadow a great game between two impressive programs

The Pelicans announced all-star forward Brandon Ingram will not be making the upcoming three game road trip with the team as he recovers from a concussion suffered Sunday night against Utah. Starters Zion Williamson and Herb Jones went through parts of today’s practice and have been listed as questionable for tomorrow night’s matchup in Phoenix.

Archaeologists are asking people going to visit a century old shipwreck exposed by low Mississippi River waters at Baton Rouge to please look but do not touch. Scientists say some sightseers are taking pieces of the “Brookhill” with them when they leave the sight. They ask you take nothing from the site and leave only your footprints. Under normal river conditions the “Brookhill” wreck is under 6 or more feet of water.

 

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre says his detectives are searching for a Larose man allegedly connected with two drug overdoses this week; one of them fatal. 18-year-old Blayne Terrebonne is wanted for dealing drugs. A 15-year-old girl is dead and a 16-year-old boy ism in the hospital, and deputies say they got the drugs from Terrebonne. They’ll take tips on his whereabouts at 985-532-4320.

Louisiana’s winningest college basketball coach, Mike McConathy, officially launches his run for the state legislature at an event tonight. District 31 senator Louie Bernard is not seeking re-election, and McConathy says he’s running for the office. LSU Shreveport political science Professor Jeff Sadow says he is so well-known in that area as a coach that should help the 66-year-old Republican…:

Kirsten Dorans, assistant professor of epidemiology, says the results are the first indication that people who are not already being treated with medications that lower blood sugar can benefit from a low-carb diet alone.

The study involved 150 adults in the New Orleans area who were either pre-diabetic or had relatively mild cases of diabetes.

She says experts already knew that medication helped lower blood sugar.

The people who participated in the study were divided into two groups. One group stuck to their usual diet. The other went on a low-carb diet for six months. . Dorans says those on the low-carb diet had other health benefits.

The American Diabetes Association says about half a million adults in Louisiana have been diagnosed with Diabetes, and 1.2 million people here have pre-diabetes, with blood glucose levels that are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be full-blown diabetes

Reynolds says prior to the scuffle, the Carroll coaches were told numerous times by fans and sheriff deputies to stop using profanity. He says after repeated warnings officers tried to escort the coaches out of the stadium and that’s when intense shoving match took place…

The Monroe City School District plans to appeal the suspensions. Reynolds the shoving match lasted several minutes, before the Carroll coaches who were in the press box were finally back on their sidelines

The Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office is considering charges against some of the Carroll coaches. Carroll won the game and they are 7-0.

Black cats and black dogs are known to have the lowest shelter adoption rates and because of the myth that black cats are evil, Haas says some shelters even choose not to make them available for adoption in October to prevent cruelty among black felines.

Haas says black cats shouldn’t be overlooked because they are just as loving and sweet as any other cat. In other countries for example Ireland where Halloween originated a black cat is considered good luck.

This will be McConathy’s first run at political office. He retired as the Northwestern State men’s basketball coach last spring. He’s been coaching college basketball in the area since 1983, so Sadow says that will help the 66-year-old Republican…

After a three-year delay, the state and several south Louisiana parishes have finalized a 100-million dollar legal settlement with Freeport-McMoRan over damages the mining company did to the coast. Attorney John Carmouche represents six of the coastal parishes involved in the suit…
