Kelly said today on the SEC Coaches Teleconference that starting left guard Garrett Dellinger had surgery yesterday to repair a broken hand suffered in the shutout win over New Mexico and he’s doubtful to play this Saturday. Miles Frazier started the season as the left guard could get the nod to start at Auburn.

Saints quarterback Jameis Winston, wide receiver Michael Thomas and offensive tackle Ryan Ramczk did not practice today as the team prepares for Sunday’s game in London against Minnesota. Winston has an ongoing back injury, Thomas has developed a toe injury and Ramczyk has an elbow injury.

Training camp is underway for the Pelicans. It’s year number for head coach Willie Green who led the team into the playoffs last season. Green compared yesterday’s first practice to how the season started last year…

The LSU men’s basketball team holds its first practice today under first year coach Matt McMahon. It’s a completely different team this year with 10 new scholarship players. The Tigers will have 28 practices before the season opener against Missouri-Kansas City on November ninth.

Hurricane Ian is bearing down on Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers are scheduled to host the Chiefs on Sunday night. Caesars Superdome spokesperson Doug Thornton says they’ve told the NFL that the Dome could host the game, if Tampa is unable to host.

Ochsner Health is building a new, state-of-the-art neuroscience center in New Orleans. Dr. C.J. Bui (pronounced like BOUY) says it will offer a combination of critically renowned programs available at only a few facilities in the world.

Ochsner says the center is being built thanks to a large donation. It will treat diseases of the spine, nerves, and brain–Diseases such as epilepsy, movement disorders, and cognitive impairment.

What was Angola’s old death row building will soon house a portion of juvenile offenders from the Bridge City Center in Jefferson Parish. After multiple escapes, the decision was made to transfer the more violent offender to the state penitentiary. That move was halted briefly after a lawsuit, but Marrero state Senator Patrick Connick says that legal hurdle has been cleared.

After a Wall Street Journal reports declared New Orleans the country’s murder capital for the first have of 2022, Mayor LaToya Cantrell rebuffed the declaration. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says she does not embrace the city’s title as the murder capital of the United Statese. A recent report said New Orleans has overtaken St. Louis as the murder capital of the country. Cantrell acknowledges New Orleans has experienced an increase in crime but says other major cities have too and says most murders occur under specific conditions.

Monroe Police say they are searching for a juvenile who fired several shots inside Pecanland Mall on Saturday night. Authorities say an argument between two juveniles escalated into a physical fight and as officers intervened, a person fired a weapon. Two people have been arrested for their role in the fight.

A red flag warning is out for southeast Louisiana and the Delta parishes for today, but State Fire Marshal spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says this week a man in Bienville Parish died as a result of open burning on his property…

Connick says he’s heard there was a staffing shortage for the facility, but he says that’s not accurate…:

Connick says a New Orleans news outlet reported of a “staff shortage”, but says there are plenty of available staff to mind the juveniles; they just need to be re-assigned to the temporary Angola facility. Connick says it will take a bit of time to make preparations to move the Bridge City Center juvenile offenders to Angola, but the biggest hurdles – the legal ones – are cleared…:

At both events, friends and family members are distributing yellow bracelets that say Live like Allie. Rice says they want to honor her memory and hope continued awareness will bring about justice for Allie also.

The nation’s obesity epidemic continues to grow, and Louisiana is among 19 states with an adult obesity rate greater than 35 percent.

Mayor Cantrell has refused to pay the city roughly 30,000 she used this year to upgrade her city air travel to business and first class.

According to New Orleans city attorney, the mayor is an employee in Orleans parish, therefore the city’s travel policies apply to her.


The missing vehicle of 48 years old Michelle Reynolds has been located in New Orleans. Reynolds’ husband reported her missing last Thursday in the Houston area. Sergeant Danny Lares, with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, says investigators are doing all they can to find Reynolds

LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey gave a no comment yesterday when asked at a press conference about her former player Brittany Griner, who is in Russia serving a nine-year sentence for drug possession.
