Senior Director of Research, David Forman says ever since Louisiana sports wagering went live at casinos in November and now with online gaming, it’s more accessible to legally bet on the big game.

The LSU men’s basketball team ended its three-game slide with a 76-68 victory over Texas A&M. The Tigers led by 20 at the half but had to hold off the Aggies in the second. Tari Eason led LSU with 25 points and 12 rebounds, his sixth double-double of the season. Next up for the Tigers, Mississippi State at home in the P-MAC on Saturday night.

The New Orleans Pelicans have acquired CJ McCollum, Larry Nance Jr., and Tony Snell from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Josh Hart, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Tomas Satoransky, Didi Louzada, and picks. Oleh Kosel, editor of The Bird Writes-dot-com, says the deal is a big win for the Pels.

Even without Hart and Alexander-Walker, the Pels extended their winning streak to four games with a 110-97 victory of the Houston Rockets, in the first of a 6-game home stand. Brandon Ingram led New Orleans with 26 points, and Herb Jones had 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Pels go for their first five-game win streak since 2018 on Thursday night when they host the Miami Heat.

Baton Rouge Senator Cleo Fields authored an amendment to create a second-majority Black district which failed on a party-line vote. Republican Slidell Senator Sharon Hewitt says his proposal would dilute the black vote in the two majority-minority districts he’s trying to create.

Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy shares good news for college students in that his bill the College Transparency Act, also known as the CTA, cleared the House of Representatives, as part of a larger package in DC.

The National Federation of Independent Business says one out of every five small businesses nationwide continue to report that inflation is their single most important business problem. The Pelicans won their fourth straight last night beating Houston 110 to 97 as Brandon Ingram led the way with 26 points. Before the game, New Orleans pulled off a big trade with Portland as the Pels acquired combo guard CJ McCollum and forwards Larry Nance Junior and Tony Snell. New Orleans sent the Trail Blazers Josh Hart, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and draft compensation.

Sean Payton had as good a relationship with the Saints fans as any coach possibly could. He embraced them and they embraced him. Allen spoke to Who Dat Nation directly during his presser, assuring them that the relationship between the team and the city won’t change now.

The Association says part of the increase is that 30 states and the District of Columbia now offer legal sports betting. Forman says ever since Louisiana sports wagering went live at casinos in November and now with online gaming, it’s more accessible to legally bet on the big game.

While the association doesn’t have an estimate for how much they expect Louisianans to bet on the Super Bowl, Forman says gamblers spent an average of $30 to $40 million a month in November and December, and that was before online was active.

Cassidy says with the cost of college increasing along with student debt, it’s only fair that students should have all the facts about a school before they enroll and even choose a major.

The state’s senior senator says it’s a popular bill, it passed in the House and has one-third of the Senate signed on as co-sponsors, and over 150 organizations have endorsed the bill.

The bill now heads to a conference committee where the House and Senate will reconcile their two different versions of the bill and Cassidy says he will push that the CTA is part of the final product.

The LSU Tigers men’s hoops squad will try to end a three-game losing streak tonight when they face Texas A&M in college station. Injuries have certainly impacted LSU, with several key players either at less than 100 percent or having to take on unfamiliar roles. Will Wade says being banged up is a factor, but the ultimate responsibility for the Tigers’ troubles is on him.

Meanwhile, LSU’s women took care of business on the road last night, beating Ole Miss 68-64. The 14th-ranked Tigers were led by Khayla Pointer’s second career triple-double. Pointer had 16 points, 11 boards, and 10 assists. LSU hosts number 17 Georgia on Thursday.

UL-Monroe’s Andre Jones has been named Sun Belt Conference player of the week after averaging 25.5 points, four rebounds, and 3.5 assists in leading the WarHawks to road wins over Arkansas State and Little Rock.

Dennis Allen was introduced as head coach of the New Orleans Saints this afternoon. Allen served two separate stints under Sean Payton, as an assistant from 2006-2012, and as defensive coordinator since 2015. That defense has thrived under Allen over the past two seasons. As he looks for his replacement, Ross Jackson, managing editor of Canal Street Chronicles says there are a couple of in-house candidates to consider.
