If Woodward wants to talk with Vanderbilt’s Tim Corbin, he’ll have to wait a couple more days. The Commodores avoided elimination with a six to five win over Stanford last night. Vandy scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth and the winning run scored on a wild pitch.

Tonight’s game is Texas versus Virginia, the winner gets Mississippi State tomorrow night. Vandy will face North Carolina State tomorrow afternoon.

The NFL combine has been held in Indianapolis since 1987, but next year might be the last year the combine is held in the Hoosier State. The NFL has reportedly informed teams they will accept bids from cities other than Indianapolis to host the annual scouting combine in 2023.

The NFL also announced it will allow teams to wear throwback-color helmets starting next year. In a memo, teams can pair the second helmet with alternate, throwback, or color rush uniforms.

In the NBA, tonight is Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. The Suns lead the best of seven series over the Clippers two games to none and Chris Paul will reportedly return to the floor tonight for Phoenix. The All-Star point guard missed the first two games of the series after testing positive for COVID.

Leon Thomas the Third, the Voice of the World Famed Tiger Marching Band has died from colon cancer at the age of 51. Thomas also served as the sideline reporter for the Grambling State Sports Radio Network.

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s office says 29-year-old Anthony Caro was taken into custody last night. Deputies say Caro got into an altercation with his dad, Anthony Caro Junior, who died from a fatal gunshot.

A local developer is hoping to change the skyline in downtown Lafayette. Cliff Guidry with Guidry Land Development has unveiled his plans to build two 20-story high-rise buildings. Guidry says it’s been 40 years since the last high rise was built in the Hub City.

While the development in Alabama is condominiums, Guidry says he used the same business model to develop Seven16 Lafayette tower. Guidry wants the towers to eclipse others and be the tallest in Acadiana. His original idea for Lafayette was office space however…

Cassidy says this comes after long negotiations.

Governor Edwards approved the Legislature’s tax swap proposal that removes the ability to deduct federal income taxes in exchange for lower overall income tax rates for businesses and individuals. Tax expert Jason DeCuir the entire tax swap plan was constructed so that if this narrow amendment fails at the October ballot, none of the proposal will take effect.

20-year-old Mykia Tyson is behind bars in St. Tammany Parish in what authorities say was an alleged murder-for-hire scheme to have her ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend killed. St Tammany Sheriff’s Spokesperson Captain Scott Lee says Tyson hired four teenagers and 17-year-old Delester Magee was the shooter.

Tyson faces solicitation for murder and contributing to the delinquency of minor charges. No one was physically injured in the June 5th shooting.

Before the proposed Slidell casino has even gone before St. Tammany Parish voters, Peninsula Pacific Entertainment announces they plan to invest even more than initially proposed to the casino site. St. Tammany Corporation CEO Chris Masingill says a $75-million investment alone is pretty significant.

A man wanted for the fatal shooting of his wife in Opelousas was arrested in Alexandria. St. Landry parish Sheriff deputies say 51-year-old Derrick Tyrone Hills was apprehended at his brother’s home after shooting his wife times at her home located next to the sheriff’s office in Opelousas. The victim has been identified as a Rachelle Arceneaux Hills.

Governor John Bel Edwards has signed legislation that removes the limit candidates running for offices in Louisiana could receive from political action committees. Council for a Better Louisiana President Barry Erwin says removing the caps, could result in more money spent on political campaigns…

A Covington-area woman and four teenagers have been arrested in an alleged murder-for-hire scheme in an effort to take out her romantic rival. St Tammany Sheriff’s Spokesperson Captain Scott Lee says 20-year-old Mykia Tyson was initially arrested on unrelated charges when they learned of her involvement with a shooting at a Lacombe home on June 5th.

No one was injured in the shooting and a total of five people are facing charges.

Gonzales Senator Ed Price says his legislation is about transparency because candidates can consolidate the number of PACs they form, making the money easier to track.

A bipartisan group of Senators that includes Louisiana’s Bill Cassidy, have reached a tentative agreement on a 579 billion dollar infrastructure bill. Cassidy will be among the Senators who will discuss the proposed spending plan with President Joe Biden today. Cassidy says the legislation can help advance construction on new bridges in Baton Rouge and Lake Charles and extending I-49 south.

Before St. Tammany voters have even approved a proposed casino-resort complex in Slidell, investors have increased their investment by $75-million for a total of $325-million. Brooke Thorington has more.
