Senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy join 23 other Republican Senators in requesting a meeting with President Biden over concerns involving his recent oil and gas policy. UL Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says he expects Biden will take this meeting.

The Johnson and Johnson COVID vaccine hopes to be the third effort against the pandemic in the U-S. It offers the convenience of one shot, but an international average efficacy of 66-percent. Assistant Dean for Translational Science at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine Dr. Lucio Miele says however in the U-S the efficacy rate is higher.

State health officials say while the vaccination rate of nursing home residents is 69-percent the rate among staff is much lower at 26-percent. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter however feels more staff will get vaccinated once the rollout conducts their second visit of three visits to the facilities.

Governor Edwards says he’s seen vaccination rates among staff almost double on the second visit at Veteran’s Homes and feels that will happen in the private nursing homes as well.

The Louisiana Department of Health reports only 26 percent of nursing home staff are vaccinated. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says that’s on 9,000 doses administered, a number that should go up once the rollout conducts their second visit to facilities.

Governor Edwards is optimistic those numbers will at least double on the next visit.

The Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, in partnership with Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, submitted a joint bid to host the 2021 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Basketball Regionals at the Brookshire Grocery Arena.  Kelly Wells, Executive Director of the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission says proximity to schools makes the area a prime location.

LSU football’s defensive staff is now complete.  After hiring Daronte Jones as defensive coordinator earlier in the week, yesterday LSU reportedly hired Blake Baker as the new Linebacker coach and Andre Carter as the team’s Defensive line coach.   Baker was the defensive coordinator for the Miami Hurricanes while Carter comes from the New York Jets as their d-line coach.

The Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, in partnership with Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, submitted a joint bid to host the 2021 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Basketball Regionals at the Brookshire Grocery Arena in Bossier City.   If awarded both events, Shreveport and Bossier City will host 12 teams who will play 10 games over five days.  While this would be a large event for the area, Kelly Wells, Executive Director of the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission says they have experience on a smaller scale.

The New Orleans Pelicans are looking for a second-straight win as they host one of the top teams in the league, the Milwaukee Bucks tonight at 6:30.  The Pelicans are 6-10 on the season while the Bucks sit at 11-6.

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team grabbed a win last night over Southern Miss 77-60.  The Bulldogs were led offensively by guard Cobe Williams’ 15 points.

The Ragin Cajuns will host Texas State tonight on the hardwood.  State comes into Lafayette with a 6-5 record while the Cajuns are 5-5.

ULM men’s basketball will be on the road tonight as they take on Little Rock at 6:30.  The Warhawks are currently 4-11 on the year.

LSU will host the 10th ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.  The Tigers are coming off a 78-66 win over the Texas A&M Aggies while Tech lost a close to West Virginia 88-87 in their previous game.  The Red Raiders are led offensively by Georgetown transfer Mac McClung who averages over 17 points per contest.  Cam Thomas leads the Tigers with over 22 points per game.

Dennis Joseph Comeaux of Breaux Bridge was arrested in St. Martinville after deputies responded to an alleged sexual assault complaint.  During the sexual assault, Breaux attempted to shoot the victim before throwing them in a trunk of a vehicle.  Breaux is facing seven charges including first-degree rape, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated kidnapping.

He says 107 suspected fraudulent applications have been turned over to the Office of the Inspector General for investigation…

The Main Street Recovery Grant Program distributed 262-million in recovery grants in Louisiana. It used federal coronavirus relief aid to provide up to 15-thousand dollars to small businesses. State Treasurer John Schroder says they surpassed their goal of providing assistance to minority and veteran-owned businesses.

LSU football has named Miami defensive coordinator Blake Baker as the team’s new linebackers coach. The 38-year-old Baker is from Texas and was a linebacker at Tulane from 2000 to 2004. From 2015 to 2018, Baker served as Louisiana Tech’s defensive coordinator and has been Miami’s D-C for the past two seasons. That leaves just one more opening on Coach Ed Orgeron’s coaching staff. But the Advocate reports that former New York Jets defensive line coach Andre Carter will be the Tiger’s new defensive line coach.

Jrue (Drew) Holiday makes his return to the Smoothie King Center tonight as his Milwaukee Bucks visit the New Orleans Pelicans. Holiday spent seven seasons in New Orleans before he was traded to Milwaukee in the last off-season. During his seven seasons in New Orleans, Holiday averaged 18 points a game, played great defense, and was known for his work in the community.

Louisiana Tech picked up a nice road win last night as the Bulldogs defeated Southern Miss 76-63. The game was tied at halftime, but the Bulldogs outscored the Golden Eagles by 13 points in the second half. Cobe Williams had 15 points to lead the way. The same two teams will play again tomorrow night in Ruston.

The Ragin Cajuns will take on Texas State today and tomorrow as they battle for first place in the Sun Belt West. The Bobcats are 5-and-1 in league play, while the Cajuns are 5-and-3. U-L Lafayette will not have head coach Bob Marlin for the series, as he tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.

ULM will look to end a six-game losing streak at Arkansas-Little Rock.

The LSU men’s basketball team will host 10th ranked Texas Tech tomorrow at 1 PM. The Red Raiders have lost two in a row, dropping games to second-ranked Baylor and a one-point defeat to West Virginia on Monday.
