New Orleans might not be able to host the Super Bowl in 2024 because a 17-game schedule would push the game back one week later to February 11th that year, which would then impact Mardi Gras. It’s possible New Orleans might have to host the Super Bowl in 2025 or 2026.

LSU Coach Paul Mainieri is hoping the NCAA gives college baseball programs more flexibility when it comes to roster restrictions because seniors are allowed to come back next season and fewer players will be selected in the Major League Baseball draft this summer.

Louisiana has lost a legendary high school football coach to COVID-19. McDonogh 35 coach Wayne Reese Senior passed away yesterday at the age of 74. He was a coach for over four decades in his life and won 255 games. In 2011, he was the recipient of the Eddie Robinson Award and also coached pro football hall of Famer Marshall Faulk.

The LHSAA released a memo today that said they still hope member schools can complete their spring sports seasons. Executive Director Eddie Bonine says the length of the seasons and when championships would be held would be based on when schools can re-open. Based on the governor’s new order, schools are closed through April 30th.

NFL’s chief medical officer, Doctor Allen Sills, says widespread testing for the coronavirus will need to occur in order for the regular season to begin in September. Sills says the restrictions on gatherings will also have to be eased.

The White House is reportedly set to recommend Americans wear a facemask while out in public to halt the spread of coronavirus. Gov. Edwards says if the CDC does call for masks it likely would not be an order.

The decision would be a sharp reversal in federal messaging. In March the US Surgeon General told Americans to stop buying masks because they don’t stop coronavirus transmission.

The funds can only be used for payroll, rent, utilities, and some interest costs, but Vance says it’s really intended to keep your workers employed.

The state is reporting 10,297 cases of the coronavirus an increase of more than a thousand from the day before. The state has now recorded 370 deaths related to COVID-19 an increase of 60 from the previous day. Currently 1,707 are hospitalized, and 535 are on ventilators.

The Army Corps of Engineers re-opens bays on the Bonnet Carre Spillway today to protect New Orleans levees from the rising Mississippi River. It’s the third time the Corps is operating the flood control structure over the last 15 months. The spillway was opened twice last year and fishermen say the diversion of freshwater killed their catch and created large algae blooms.

The state department of education is letting local school systems decide on whether high school seniors will receive their diploma. A school district can either assign a letter grade for classwork done this semester or simply say the student either passed or failed. And Assistant state superintendent Ken Bradford says seniors currently taking dual-enrollment courses have completion options, including an in-progress designation…

The State Treasurer is shipping out four million dollars’ worth of unclaimed property checks to Louisianans this week. John Schroder says by working with the Department of Revenue they’ve identified tens of thousands of recipients who are owed money they can use right now.

The 54-year-old is the second member of the House to test positive for COVID-19. Baton Rouge Representative Ted James has also tested positive and was hospitalized with pneumonia. James has been released but will quarantine until fully recovered.
