New Orleans Police say 21-year-old Kentrell Baham faces a second-degree murder charge after fatally shooting a Walmart employee last night inside the store. A second victim was shot in the foot.  NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson did not provide a motive on what led to the shooting.

New Orleans Police say one person was fatally shot and another injured in a shooting inside a Gentilly Walmart last night. Authorities say a gunman entered the store and fatally shot an employee and shot a second person in the foot. Officials have not released the identities of those involved or a possible motive.

LSU players get another day off today, they return to the practice field tomorrow and will leave for New Orleans on Friday where they’ll play Clemson in the national championship game Monday night.

The Ragin Cajuns won their 11th game last night as quarterback Levi Lews threw two touchdown passes to Ja’Marcus Bradley as U-L Lafayette beat Miami of Ohio 27-17 in the Lending Tree Bowl. Lewis threw for 246 yards and Bradley had seven catches for 88 yards.

Brandon Ingram had 35 points for the Pelicans, but New Orleans lost to the Utah Jazz 128 to 126. Ingram had a chance to tie it at the buzzer, but Rudy Gobert blocked his shot at the rim. Coach Gentry says his team deserved to win the game and he was upset the refs didn’t see him call for a time out before Ingram drove to the hoop.

In college hoops, Mylik Wilson scored a career-high 30-points as the Ragin Cajuns defeated Appalachian State 81-73. Coastal Carolina crushed ULM 93-64. Grambling improved to 2-0 in the SWAC play with a 68-63 win over Alabama State. Southern scored just 22 points in the first half and lost to Prairie View A-and-M 64-54.

New Orleans Police say a man who walked into a packed Gentilly Walmart with a gun fatally shooting an employee and injuring another person has been arrested. It’s unclear if the shooter targeted the victim. Police say the second victim was shot in the foot and is in stable condition.

Kids are back in school and state health officials are concerned about another increase in flu cases. Office of Public Health Assistant Secretary Doctor Alex Billioux says in late fall there was a spike in flu cases caused by a B strain. With events the size of the CFP Championship Game happening in the state comes the opportunity for fraudulent tickets to end up in fans’ hands.  Attorney General Jeff Landry warns to be on the lookout for red flags if you are hoping to cheer on LSU at the Superdome this Monday.

Landry says there will be no print-at-home PDF tickets that will be considered valid at the entry of the game.

Louisiana Health Secretary Doctor Rebekah Gee is resigning effective January 31st. Gee received criticism from GOP lawmakers, including US Senator John Kennedy, who called for her firing last year on the heels of an audit that showed the state misspent 85-million dollars on ineligible Medicaid recipients. Parks Senator Fred Mills says the secretary wasn’t afraid to correct those issues

Two horses are dead following Saturday’s opening day at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs racetrack in Bossier City.  Both horses fell on the track and had to be euthanized.  Animal Wellness Action Executive Director Marty Irby says deaths of this nature will not end until federal lawmakers pass the Horseracing Integrity Act which would end doping and provide greater safety for horses.  Irby says it is vital to flag the deaths because no member of the Louisiana Congressional delegation has come forward in support of the bill yet.

Harrah’s says they were deeply saddened, adding they will continue to work to ensure the health and safety of horses.

Mortgage rates are expected to remain low in 2020 with the national average mortgage rate currently at 3.86 percent and dropping. Bankrate.com chief financial analyst Greg McBride says we could see rates stay below four percent, a critical threshold.
