President Trump’s impeachment trial could end today. A key vote will take place soon on whether witnesses should be called before the Senate, but Louisiana Senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy and most of the Republican lawmakers are expected to vote against having witnesses, which would result in closing arguments and a vote on impeachment possibly taking place today.

A court hearing takes place this morning over whether emails between the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Saints regarding the sexual abuse scandal involving clergy members should be made public.

Southern University has launched a hemp-derived CBD product which can be found at eight of the state’s nine licensed medical-marijuana pharmacies…

That’s executive director of Southern’s Institute for Medicinal Plants, Doctor Janana Snowden. She says the new product is called ALAFIA, there’s one with a low amount of T-H-C and the other without. The hope is to expand distribution by March.

State Immunization Director Dr. Frank Welch says healthcare facilities are screening for the virus, asking patients with cold or flu-like symptoms two questions…

There have been six confirmed cases so far in the US.

The number of infected has increased tenfold in the last week and killed over 170 people. Welch says the WHO’s designation means it’s an outbreak everyone needs to keep their eyes on.

More than 20 countries around the world have reported cases, but so far there have been no fatalities outside of China.

Welch says the general risk of infection for the ordinary Louisianan is pretty low right now, and most reported cases so far have not been severe.

Those most at risk are the very young, the very old, and those with underlying health issues that make flu or cold-like infections more dangerous.

Former LSU superstar Tyrann Matthieu will take the field Sunday night as a core piece of the Kansas City defense, seemingly finally hitting his professional stride after a rough start to his career.

The World Health Organization names the Wuhan Coronavirus a public health emergency as the virus is thought to have infected over 8,000 people in 20 different countries now, with six infections in the US. Petroleum analyst for gas-buddy-dot-com Patrick De Haan says the infection has sent gas prices tumbling to 2.15 a gallon, an eight-cent drop in the last week due to collapsing demand from China…

DeHaan says it’s possible the statewide average could get down to two dollars a gallon. 

And crawfish prices aren’t looking so hot either. President of the Crawfish Research and Promotion Board David Savoy says the demand has been slow to rise despite the season being underway. Savoy says some people may view Super Bowl weekend as the official kickoff of the season.

Saints Coach Sean Payton said today he honestly doesn’t know if quarterback Drew Brees will return for his 20th season. Payton made the comments on the D-A Show on C-B-S Sports Radio. Brees, who played in last Sunday’s Pro Bowl, said he plans to spend the next month with his family and then make a decision on whether he’ll play another season.

Saints Running back Alvin Kamara said on Ian Rapaport’s RapSheet podcast that there maybe something going on when it comes to a possible contract extension. Kamara just completed his third season for the Black and Gold and admitted he played through much of the season injured, which is why his numbers were down this year.

The Saints have said they only did “minimal” behind the scenes public relations work for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and their dealings with a sexual abuse crisis. But attorneys who are suing church claim the NFL team helped shape a list of credibly accused clergy, which means they determined which names should or should not be on the pedophile list.

Expecting a good matchup tonight in the Thomas Assembly Center as Louisiana Tech hosts Charlotte in a Conference USA contest. Both teams are 6-and-2 in league play.
