Astros All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow to remove loose bodies. The procedure on the former LSU star is expected to limit him when Spring Training starts next month.

In the NBA, the Pelicans begin a five-game road trip tomorrow in Minnesota. New Orleans has won three in a row, but are three games back of the Lakers for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Louisiana Tech released its football schedule for 2019. The Bulldogs start the season against Texas. The Longhorns could be a team ranked in the Top 10. The home opener will be September 7th at home against Grambling State. The Bulldogs will have a tough end to the season, after a bye on November 2nd, they’ll host North Texas and then travel to Marshall and U-A-B and finish the 2019 regular season campaign against U-T-S-A.

College hoops last night, tough loss for ULM last night as Tookie Brown hit a three-pointer as time expired to help Georgia Southern beat the Warhawks 79-78. The loss spoiled another good performance from Daishon Smith, who scored 27 points and had six rebounds and five assists.

The Ragin Cajuns also lost in the Peach State as Georgia State beat UL Lafayette 89-76.

Louisiana Tech defeated UAB 64-53. JaColby Pemberton had a career-high 17 points.

New poll data shows Governor John Bel Edwards approval rating at 49-percent. The survey comes from Morning Consult, who polls the popularity of governors nationwide. ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says Edwards is doing well as a Democrat in a red state, because of his pro-gun and pro-life stance and his ability to bring budget stability…

Louisiana has purchased 515-acres of farmland in Terrebonne Parish so they can move residents of Isle De Jean Charles from their vanishing island along the Gulf Coast. Office of Community Development Director Pat Forbes says the planning of their new community continues…

At last count about 100 people still lived on the island that’s being swallowed up by the Gulf.

Calcasieu Parish sheriff deputies found two people dead at a home in Lake Charles early this morning. Investigators believe 52-year-old David Pendley stabbed himself to death and his wife. His 24-year-old son was also stabbed, but he’s been released from a hospital.

State health officials are seeking a pharmaceutical partner to purchase drugs at a lower cost that can be used to treat hepatitiis C, which is a disease that damages the liver and can lead to death. At least 39-thousand people in Louisiana’s Medicaid program and prison system suffer from hepaititis C infection. Alex Billioux with the state office of public health says the plan also includes increased training for physicians, aimed at helping them identify patients who may be infected.

A member of the Louisiana Tax Commission has been arrested and faces multiple charges related to his employment.  The arrest of the Administrator of the LTC, 51-year-old Charles K. Abels III of Baton Rouge, comes following an investigation beginning in May of 2018 regarding possible payroll fraud.  Among other issues, authorities say Abels claimed and was paid for time worked while not performing his LTC duties.

Edwards has issued a state of emergency declaration due to flooding concerns.  Deputy director of GOHSEP Casey Tingle says the agency is continuing to ramp up prep for local emergency managers as they begin to combat issues relating to river flooding from periods of excessive rainfall over the last few weeks, and more rainfall in the forecast.

That’s Governor John Bel Edwards who says Louisiana has started the process in finding a pharmacuetical partner so they can treat 10-thousand individuals by the end of 2020.

A man who had been serving a life sentence for rape since 1981 is now a free man. Eric Prudholm walked out of Angola yesterday after a state judge vacated his convictions and sentence for aggravated rape and armed robbery. The Innocence Project says new DNA evidence in the case out of Bossier Parish conclusively proved that Prudholm did not rape the victim. Prudholm is now 58-years-old. He was 21 when he was thrown in jail.

Louisiana Office of Community Development Director Pat Forbes hopes the state can begin construction later this year on a new community for the residents of Isle De Jean Charles, which are in jeopardy of losing their homes on an island because of coastal erosion. Forbes says inhabitants of the island have been offered interim housing.

The state has paid 11.7 million dollars in federal money on a 515-acre property of land in Terrebonne Parish about 40 miles north of the island to resettle the residents of Isle De Jean Charles in a new community.

One man is dead following a police shooting in Lake Charles. Authorities say a man threatened another man with a gun inside a convenience store at about 1 AM this morning. Police say an officer came across the possible suspect a block away. It’s unclear what exactly happened next, but a statement says an officer opened fire, killing the man with a gun.

The state has purchased land in Terrebonne Parish for residents of the Isle De Jean Charles, who live on an island that’s being swallowed up by the Gulf of Mexico. Kevin Barnhart has the story.

Eight parishes are under a state of emergency declaration due to flooding concerns from high river levels. And rain is in the forecast for tonight, into tomorrow. Health officials say at least 39-thousand people in Louisiana’s Medicaid program and prison system suffer from hepatitis C infection, which is why the state is working on a plan to purchase normally expensive hepatits C drugs at a lower a cost to treat the contagious and sometimes fatal liver disease….

That’s Louisiana Health Secretary Rebekah Gee, who says the department of health’s goal is to treat over 10-thousand Medicaid-enrolles and prisoners by the end of 2020.

A Lake Charles Police officer was involved in a fatal shooting early this morning. The L-C P-D says the officer responded to a complaint that a man entered a store and threatened another individual with a gun. An officer arrived three minutes later and found the suspect and the officer involved shooting left the man with a gun dead. State Police is conducting an investigation.

The 11.7 million dollar land purchase outside of Schriever is the first step in relocation. Forbes says the planning and construction of the homes and community will emphasize and maintain the unique culture created by the mostly Native American inhabitants of the quickly disappearing island.

The site was selected after an extensive search and environmental impact study, and was overwhelmingly supported by its future residents. The initiative is being funded by the feds in a first of its kind re-location project.

Louisiana is aiming to have a plan in place by July to offer Medicaid and incarcerated patient’s unrestricted access to curative treatments for Hepatitis C, to cut down on the spread of the deadly virus. Governor Edwards says the plan is the first of its kind for any state in the US.

To accomplish this, the state is hoping to reach an agreement with a pharma company for a “subscription” based approach to accessing treatments.

The plan aims to get Louisiana primary care providers easier access to the necessary drugs. Department of Health Secretary Rebekah Gee says doing this will keep costs down, while increasing the number of treated patients.

LDH is now soliciting offers through the end of the month from pharmaceutical companies interested in providing the “subscriptions”.

Three familiar faces will be marching back into the Dome for Sunday’s Divisional round matchup, all three of them having last met for a New Orleans playoff contest five years ago. One of them is former backup quarterback and 2018 Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles, who Saints QB Drew Brees noted started in the Black and Gold’s 26-24 wildcard home victory five years ago.

In that game Foles threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

It’s also a return home for Eagles running back Darren Sproles, who whose last home game as a Saint also happened to be that same 26-24 win over Foles’ Eagles in 2014. The electric running back played three seasons in New Orleans, and has become a close friend of Brees’…

Former Saints first round pick and Philly safety Malcolm Jenkins will also be back in the Dome, like Sproles, having also played his last home game in Black and Gold in that 2014 wildcard round win. Brees says Jenkins has really flourished since leaving the Crescent City.
