According to Yahoo sports insider Jordan Schultz, the Pelicans are one of four teams interested in Cleveland restricted free agent Rodney Hood. The 25-year-old wing man averaged nearly 15 points a game last season and shot 38-percent from three-point territory.

The LSU Board of Supervisors meets on Friday where they are expected to approve a huge salary increase for gymnastics coach DD Breaux, who is set to get a 47-percent increase to raise her annual salary to 405-thousand dollars. The LSU gymnastics team has finished in the top four in the country in the last three seasons.

LSU women’s basketball coach Nikki Fargas is set to get a three-year contract extension. The Lady Tigers have made the NCAA Tournament the last two years.

Big game for former LSU star Alex Bregman as he had four hits last night including his 13th home run of the season as Houston blanked the Blue Jays seven to nothing.

Arkansas is one win away from its first national championship in baseball. The Razorbacks took game one of the championship series of the C-W-S with a 4-1 win over Oregon State last night. The Hogs scored all of their runs in the fifth inning and had just two hits in that inning as Beavers starting pitcher Luke Heimlich couldn’t find the strike zone. Game two is tonight at 6 PM.

The Baton Rouge Soccer Club has reportedly fired one of its coaches after he was arrested on allegations he repeatedly sexually assaulted one of his female players in Connecticut several years ago. 42-year-old Adam Allerton is facing multiple counts of second and fourth-degree sexual assault. The executive director of the Baton Rouge soccer club said they took significant precautions to ensure the safety of their players.

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission announced plans to close the current recreational, seven days per week red snapper season at 11:59 PM on July 8th. Depending on the number of red fish caught this summer, it’s possible the red snapper season will re-open during the weekends in August.

Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says the legislature’s decision to renew a portion of an expiring one-cent sales tax will give the state a stable revenue source.

Most state agencies survived the special session without a cut, but the Department of Corrections was not so lucky. Construction and repair projects were put off once again, leading to concerns from department officials that the facilities used to house inmates could be running low on time. Secretary Jimmy LeBlanc says they got hit pretty hard at the last second.

The Revenue estimating conference modified the state’s revenue forecast to reflect the nearly 500 million dollars in taxes that the legislature approved in the two special sessions this month. The 29.9 billion dollar budget goes into effect July 1st.

Billy Nungesser will welcome the annual 2018 meeting of the National Governors Association with opening remarks.  Among the topics being discussed, Nungesser says he intends on bringing attention to the dangers of cheaper, imported seafood.

Among the other items up for discussion, Nungesser says it’s his goal to figure out ways for states to work together in marketing themselves to international visitors.

A Jonesville man is under arrested after allegedly running over a 14-year-old girl who was taking out the trash in front of her house. The incident left Cadance Parker dead, and 23-year-old Earl Hancock locked in the Catahoula Parish Detention Center. State Police Spokesperson Master Trooper Scott Moreau:

Moreau says Hancock lost control, because of severe impairment in his ability to drive due to drugs and alcohol.

But it wasn’t all bad news. The legislature OK’d 24 million dollars in pay raises for corrections workers, bringing average pay from 12 dollars an hour to 14. LeBlanc says they experienced a 52 percent turnover last year, and this help draw in prospects to fill the hundreds of vacant positions.

Texas Southern will introduce former LSU coach and player Johnny Jones as its new men’s basketball coach tomorrow. The DeRidder native spent last season as an associate head coach at Nevada, helping the Wolfpack reach the Sweet 16. He was 90-and-72 during his five seasons as LSU’s head coach. Jones replaces Mike Davis, who is now the head coach at Detroit-Mercy.

Anthony Davis missed out on receiving any end of the year awards at the NBA Awards Show last night. A-D was up for Defensive Player of the Year and M-V-P. Houston’s James Harden won the M-V-P as expected and Utaz Jazz Center Rudy Gobert won the 2018 Defensive Player of the Year Award. Former LSU standout Ben Simmons was named Rookie fo the Year.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees comes in at number eight in the NFL Network’s annual list of the top 100 players. It’s the first time Brees has been ranked in the top ten since the 2014 season. He set an NFL record last season with a 72-percent passing percentage.

Alabama three-star linebacker Kendall McCallum becomes the 18th commitment of the 2019 recruiting class for the Tgiers. He’s six-foot-three, 235 pounds and also had offers from Louisville, Ole Miss and Missouri. He’s ranked by 24=7 sports as the 25th best inside linebacker in the nation.

LSU-Eunice’s Zach Hester has been named the national junior college division two player of the year. The right-hander from Texas was 13-and-1 with a 2.34 ERA with 133 strikeouts as he helped LSU-E win a national title.

Mississippi State has named Chris Lemonis as its new head baseball coach. The 48-year-old has led the Indiana Hoosiers to the NCAA Tournament in three of the past four seasons. Lemonis replaces interim coach Gary Henderson, who just led the Bulldogs to a surprise trip to the College World Series.

Game one of the championship series of the C-W-S was rained out last night. So they will try again tonight at 6 PM. Arkansas will send Blaine Knight to the hill. He’s 13-0 while Oregon State’s Luke Heimlich will go for the Beavers. He’s 16-2 on the year.

Argentina has reached the knockout round of the World Cup with a 2-1 win over Nigeria. France and Denmark played to a zero-zero tie and Crotia won again by beating Iceland 2-1.

Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Bud Torres says the motive is unclear.

Tangipahoa Parish Sherriff Danial Edwards is now reporting that two people who were found on the interstate yesterday with gunshot wounds are in stable condition, but still critical. 35-year-old Sylvia Foxx and 44-year-old Shane Jones, both of Milwaukee were involved in what witnesses say was a murder-suicide attempt. Foxx was found with a gunshot wound to the head, Jones with a gunshot wound to the face. Jones could face charges of attempted second degree murder.
