The son of LSU Coach Les Miles, Ben Miles, has committed to Nebraska, despite receiving a scholarship offer from his dad. Ben Miles is a fullback at Catholic High and helped the Bears win their first state championship last season

An NCAA rule change has allowed college coaches to publicly interact to a point with recruits. Coaches will still not be abllowed to comment directly about recruits, but they can now retweet, favorite or like a recruit’s posts. This morning, Coach Les Miles re-tweeted several posts about offers made to several high school stars.

At the time of this broadcast, former Ragin Cajun Jonathan Lucroy is still a Milwaukee Brewer. The All-Star catcher rejected a trade to the Indians, but other teams are still interested in his services prior to this afternoon’s trade deadline.

Former SLU Lion Wade Miley is now with the Baltimore Orioles. Seattle sent the starting pitcher to the Orioles, who are in first place in the A-L East. Miley is 7-8 with a 4.98 ERA, but has pitched much better in July.

After failing to get a hit in his first 18 at-bats, former LSU star Alex Bregman finally got one yesterday. But Bregman’s Astros still lost to Detroit 11-0.

There have been 10 more locally transmitted Zika cases confirmed in Florida, bringing the total number there to 14 — and Louisiana officials say it could just be only a matter of time before we see homegrown cases spread by mosquitoes here. The Louisiana Department of Revenue has put out a warning that some Louisiana taxpayers are being targeted by scam artists. There are over 400 new laws that go into effect today. Hunters can now wear “blaze pink.” Dancers in strib clubs must be over the age of 21. Fines for failing to wear a seat belt has doubled to 50-dollars. And convicted sex offenders are no longer able to do any kine of door-to-door business.

The LaFourche Parish Sheriff’s office says a mother fatally shot her young daughter, then shot herself in an apparent murder-suicide. Spokesperson Brennan Matherne says the little girl’s father discovered the horrific scene and called 9-1-1 just before noon on Sunday…

New Orleans Police say they found a murdered man who had been set on fire in the trash. They say firefighters were extinguishing the blaze in a dumpster when they found the severely burned body of an unknown man. The coroner will conduct an autopsy to figure out the dead man’s identity and cause of death.

A Terrebonne Parish island is disappearing off the coast due to erosion, and one UL-Lafayette professor is working to preserve its history before it’s gone. An assault on a law enforcement officer or first responder is now considered a hate crime in Louisiana, under a new mandate in effect as of today. Alexandria Representative Lance Harris…:

After the fatal shooting of law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge, there were social media threats made against law enforcement in Caddo and St. Charles parishes. Harris says this law applies to those criminal acts.

There were two separate boating fatalities over the weekend, including one that claimed the life of a 5 year old boy. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries say the child, Ethan Hancock, was frogging with his father when they both went into the Intracoastal Waterway after a barge came up from behind them. Hancock was sucked under the tug boat. 44-year-old Robert Sims hit a piling while on a boat near Grand Isle and suffered serious head trauma and died.

After four confirmed cases of locally transmitted Zika were reported in Florida, state officials in Louisiana say were are ready in case that happens here. Medical Director for Community Preparedness Dr. Frank Welch says people should check their property regularly to make sure there is no standing water where mosquitoes can breed…:

The National Hurricane Center is tracking a strong tropical wave that they say is moving quickly over the east-central Caribbean Sea as of Sunday night. According to forecasters, the showers and thunderstorms associated with the system show signs of organization, and has the potential to become a tropical cyclone.  This wave is being given a 50 percent chance for development in the next 2 days.

Sad story out of LaFourche Parish. The Sheriff’s Office believes a 26-year-old mother, Nakesha Carrere, shot her give year old daughter to death, then turned the gun on herself in an apparent murder suicide…:

A familiar face was at Saints training camp on Sunday. Retired NFL great and New Orleans native Peyton Manning was at the Greenbrier for a speaking engagement, and decided to check out Saints practice.

Looks like LSU coach Les Miles won’t be seeing his son on the field in Tiger Stadium, as Catholic High’s Ben Miles announced on Twitter Sunday that he’s decided to play for Nebraska. Miles is one of the top-rated fullbacks in the nation – and he picked the Cornhuskers over offers from LSU, Michigan State and Boston College – among others.

Former LSU standout Alex Bregman finally got his first hit in the Majors. It took himn six games and 19 official at bats with the Astros before getting the shot in Detroit against the Tigers. Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera gave Bregman a hug following the hit.

Former SLU pitcher Wade Miley was acquired by the Baltimore Oriloes from Seattle on Sunday. Miley is making $6 million this season and is owed $8.75 million in 2017, according to sources.

A 26-year-old mother and her five-year-old daughter were found shot to death in a residence in Thibodaux. LaFourche Parish Sheriff’s office spokesperson Brennan Matherne says investigators believe the mother, Nakesha Carrere shot Abigail Creamer and then turned the gun on herself.:

A detailed letter was found inside the home and authorities believe Carrere wrote it.

Louisiana is ready for the possibility of local transmission of the Zika Virus. There are four confirmed cases of Zika in Florida in people who did not travel out of the country or have contact with someone who did. State Health Officer Dr. Frank Welch says Louisiana has been preparing since January…:

He says the biggest thing the public can do to prevent the spread is to make sure you don’t have standing water in your yard.

The “Blue Lives Matter” law goes into effect today in Louisiana, and Alexandria Representative Lance Harris says the mandate is now more important than ever after the attacks on police officers in Baton Rouge and Dallas. Harris says crimes committed against first responders, because of the uniforms they wear, are now classified as hate crimes…:

Those who opposed this measure have said it’s not a good idea to classify hate crimes by occupation and this wouldn’t stand up in court.

Lottery officials say the $487 million dollar Powerball jackpot was hit Saturday night — on a ticket sold in New Hampshire. The lump sum option is worth $330.6 million. It was the eighth largest U.S. lottery jackpot.
