A week from today, the regular legislative session will come to a close, and just 30 minutes later, lawmakers will begin another special session. Communications Director for the Governor, Richard Carbo says legislators will address some of the unintended consequences of the last special session, like exemptions that should have been placed on the sales tax increase.

This Memorial Day, Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary, Joey Strickland, encourages families to get together and remember those that gave their lives fighting for our freedom. He says no matter how people feel about the war, they should still honor our veterans. He says there’s plenty that people can do to salute veterans’ service.

Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser hopes Louisiana will be a popular destination for travelers this summer. He says the soaring summer temperatures shouldn’t stop people from visiting our festivals and historic locations.

2015 was another record-setting year for Louisiana tourism.

The Tin Roof Brewery of Baton Rouge will brew the official beer of LSU, with a little help from some LSU fans. Cofounder William McGehee says Tin Roof Brewery was selected to brew the LSU beer after a series of conversations with LSU officials.

In honor of Memorial Day, Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Joey Strickland encourages families to take time during their family gatherings and remember those that have fought for our freedom.

Strickland says in the past year alone, 7 Louisiana troops have died.

A week from today, lawmakers will end the regular session and begin another special session in the same day. Communications Director for Governor Edwards Richard Carbo says the budget will be a big issue during this session, as lawmakers were unable to raise enough revenue in the last special session to close the budget deficit.

Carbo says legislators will look at responsible revenue raising measures to ensure that critical state services are fully funded.

LSU fans will help choose the taste of the official beer of LSU. Cofounder of Tin Roof Brewery William McGehee says people age 21 and over can register to be on the tasting panel that will select the LSU brew from 10 different test batches of lagers and ales.

Registration to be on the panel continues through June 8 at TinRoofBrewery.com. McGehee says the new beer should be ready in time for the start of the 2016 LSU football season.

The LSU Tigers have received a national seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Tigers will host Utah Valley, Rice and Southeastern Louisiana in the Baton Rouge Regional this weekend. UL Lafayette will host Sam Houston State, Princeton and Arizona, while Louisiana Tech is heading to the regional in Starkville and Tulane will be at the Oxford Regional.

Communications Director for Governor Edwards, Richard Carbo, says the state will look at responsible revenue raising measures to ensure TOPS, healthcare, K-12 education and higher ed are fully funded…

Carbo says they’ll also try to clean up the unintendenced consequences of the first special session, like collecting sales tax on Girl Scout cookies.

Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser is hopeful that tourists will choose the Bayou State as their summer vacation destination to visit one of the 400 festivals that will occur across the state during the summer months. He hopes the low gas prices will bring in more people from other states.

According to organizers of the Bayou Country Superfest, attendance at the three-day country music festival dropped for the second straight year. 100-thousand people attended the seventh annual festival at LSU’s Tiger Stadium to see performances by country stars like Luke Bryan, Eric Church and Jason Aldean.

The LSU Tigers are a national seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Which means the Bayou Bengals will get to host a Super Regional, if they are able to win the Baton Rouge regional this weekend.

Four teams from the SEC received national seeds, Florida, Texas A-and-M and Mississippi State.

So here’s a look at the Baton Rouge Regional…LSU is the number one seed and they’ll play Utah Valley at 2 PM on Friday afternoon. The Wolverines won the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

The number two seed is the Rice Owls and the three-seed is Southeastern Louisiana. Coach Matt Riser’s team gets in, despite losing to Sam Houston State seven to four in the Southland Tournament championship game. Rice and S-L-U will play each other on Friday night at 7 PM.

By the way LSU’s regional is matched up with the North Carolina State regional.

Louisiana Tech is in the NCAA Baseball Tournament for the first time since 1987. The Bulldogs will compete in the Starkville Regional, which will be hosted by Mississippi State. Tech will face Cal State Fullerton on Friday afternoon in a two versus three seed match-up.

The Starkville Regional is paired with the Lafayette Regional, hosted by the Ragin Cajuns. UL Lafayette will host Sam Houston State, Princeton and Arizona in its Regional.

And Tulane is the fifth school from Louisiana in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Green Wave is the two seed in the Oxford Regional and Tulane will play Boston College on Friday. The other match-up in Oxford is Ole Miss versus Utah.

According to oganizers of the Bayou Country Superfest, 100-thousand people attended the three-day country musical festival at LSU’s Tiger Stadium. That’s the second straight year there’s been an attendance drop.

The LSU Tigers are an eight national seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, which means they’ll host a Super Regional if they win this weekend’s regional at the Box. Rice, Southeastern Louisiana and Utah Valley are the other teams at the Baton Rouge Regional.

Memorial Day weekend is the official start to summer for many. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser is hoping the summer travel season will be a good one for Louisiana. He says low gas prices and plenty of things to do should attract tourists to the Bayou State, despite the hot temperatures…

On this Memorial Day, the statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.10, which is 38-cents lower than a year ago. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser hopes these low gas prices will bring in tourists from surrounding states…

Festival Productions Incorporated says the attendance for this year’s Bayou Country Superfest was 100,000, the lowest it’s been since 2014, which was the first year the musical festival inside Tiger Stadium was expanded to a three-day event.

The 64-team NCAA Tournament baseball field will be unveiled this morning at 11 AM. We already know that LSU and UL Lafayette are two of the 16 host sites. Tulane is expected to get an at-large bid, the same could be said for Louisiana Tech who would make their first NCAA Regional appearance since 1987.

LSU and UL Lafayette have been selected as host sites for NCAA baseball regionals. It’s the fifth straight year the Tigers will host a regional and the third time it will happen for the Cajuns under head coach Tony Robichaux.

UL Lafayette gets to host after winning the Sun Belt Tournament Championship for a third consecutive year. The Cajuns blanked sixth seeded Georgia Southern five to nothing in San Marcos, Texas. Senior Nick Thurman homered and was named the Most Oustanding Player of the tournament. Sophomore Wyatt Marks earned the win by throwing seven scoreless innings.

We’ll find out who will play in the Baton Rouge and Lafayette regionals at 11 AM this morning. That’s when the 64-team bracket will be released. Louisiana Tech and Tulane are most likely in, while Southeastern Louisiana will have to wait anxiously after losing in the Southland Tournament championship game to Sam Houston State seven to four. The Lions record is 39-and-19.

The Pelicans organiziation remains in shock over the death of Bryce Dejean-Jones, who Dallas police say was fatally shot early Saturday morning after he broke into the wrong apartment. The 23-year-old Jones just signed a three-year contract with New Orleans. He was in Dallas for his daughter’s birthday and based on reports was trying to gain access to the apartment occupied by the child’s mother, but entered the wrong apartment and an alarmed resident shot him.

The LSU Softball squad is heading to the Women’s College World Series after winning its super regional series over James Madison. The Tigers had to win two games on Saturday to advance. They won the first game two to nothing, and three to two in game two. The Tigers first opponent in Oklahoma City will be Michigan on Thursday night at 8:30.
