Despite falling to Florida 2-1 in the semifinals of the SEC Baseball Tournament Saturday afternoon, LSU was selected as an NCAA Baseball Regional host site. The Tigers will play host to a four team regional at Alex Box Stadium beginning Friday. LSU is hosting its 23rd regional in school history.

Junior second baseman Stefan Troaclair’s two-out grand slam in the top of the 12th, gave UL-Lafayette a 5-1 win over South Alabama and the Sun Belt Baseball Tournament championship. This is the second straight tournament championship for the Ragin Cajuns and third in school history. This will also be the third straight season UL-Lafayette will adance to the NCAA regionals.

Southeastern Louisiana is keeping its fingers crossed for an at-large bid to the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Lions finished the season with a 42-17 record and took home the Southland Conference regular season championship. But Southeastern had a disappointing conference tournament and their fate is left in the hands of the selection committee.

The entire 64-team NCAA Baseball Tournament field will be announced this morning at 11.

In college softball, the number eight LSU Tigers scored four in the first inning yesterday and fended off several rallies to defeat the sixteenth ranked Arizona Wildcats 10-5 to win their Super Regional and advance to the Women’s College World Series. The UL-Lafayette softball team came up short in their quest to make it to Oklahoma City as they fell to Auburn in their Super Regional matchup. The Ragin Cajuns end their season with a 42-12 reord.

After the release of Shayne Graham, a kicker battle will take place in New Orleans Saints Training Camp between Dustin Hopkins and Zach Hocker. Hopkins was a starter for the Buffalo Bills in 2013 before a groin injury placed him on injured reserve. He was eventually released and signed to the Saints’ practice squad last December. Hocker was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 2014, but was let go before the season began.
