Slidell Police cops have arrested a Baton Rouge man after he threw his young daughter to the ground while fleeing officers during a shoplifting attempt. Detective Daniel Seuzeneau says officers responded to a call that 24-year-old Lamar Causey was stealing cologne and perfume from a cosmetics store…:

The little girl was transported to a local hospital for her injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. Causey faces many charges including theft of goods, cruelty to juveniles, possessing of drugs and resisting arrest.

A straw poll conducted at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference showed Governor Bobby Jindal finishing in 12th place among Republican presidential hopefuls. But UL-Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross doesn’t think that will keep Jinal from running for the White House…:

LSU and its former defensive coordinator John Chavis are in a legal battle. The two sides filed lawsuits against each other. The University claims Chavis owes $400,000 in buyout money but the now Texas A&M DC says he took the right steps when he left to avoid having to pay the buyout. Legal analyst Tim Meche says where the case will be heard, Texas or Louisiana, is going to be the biggest battle here…:

Meche believes this will be settled out of court because it’s not in the interest of either football program to have to go through a deposition.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office has released additional information about the shooting death of a gynecologist apparently had the hands of his wife during an argument. They say Dr. Wayne Breen and Kacie Breen had a history of domestic issues including physical violence committed by Mr. Breen. Detectives are working to determine if the shooting was justified but no charges are filed at this time.

The Slidell Police Department says a 24-year-old Baton Rouge man is under arrest accused of robbing Ulta Beauty then throwing his 17-month-old daughter to the ground when he was confronted by cops. They say Lamar Causey then ran from officers and when he was arrested he threatened to have his people from Baton Rouge find out who the cops were and take care of them.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office says information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for a double homicide in January could be worth up to $25,000. They say 37-year-old Chad Nichols and 29-year-old Benny Booker were gunned down at a home in Donaldsonvile. Investigators believe the suspect stole Booker’s white Dodge Magnum. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $5,000 and an independent reward of $20,000 is also being offered. Anonymous calls can be made to 225-344-STOP.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office says the wife of a doctor who admitted to shooting and killing her husband during an argument has not been charged in his death. Legal analyst Doug Sunseri says the DA will likely let a grand jury decide what’s next for Kacie Breen…:

LSU’s Tim Quarterman has been named the SEC men’s basketball Player of the Week. Quarterman had a triple-double in Saturday’s win over Ole Miss. The sophomore guard is only the third player in LSU to record a triple double. He had 18 points, ten rebounds and ten assists. The win gives LSU a 21-8 record and improves its chances of making the NCAA Tournament.

The Pelicans won their fifth straight last night as they defeated the Denver Nuggets 99 to 92. New Orleans remains a half game back of Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Tonight the Pels are at Dallas, who is seeking its 40th win of the year. Tip-off is at 7:30.

The latest D-1 baseball rankings are out…LSU is number seven after sweeping Princeton. Tulane has cracked the rankings as the Green Wave are ranked 25th and they are 8-and-3 heading into tomorrow night’s game at Nicholls State.

ULM officials break ground today on a new facility that will be located behind the end zone at Malone Stadium. It will feature a new locker room, a Hall of Fame area and new coaches’ offices. Warhawks Coach Todd Berry says the facility will have an impact on their current players and recruiting…

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office says the wife of a doctor who admitted to shooting and killing her husband during an argument has not been charged in his death. 65-year-old Wayne Breen was shot early Sunday morning at the couple’s Folsom-area home. Legal analyst Doug Sunseri says in cases like this the DA will often let a grand jury make the next move:

Kacie Breen called 911 around 3am Sunday and said she and her husband got into a fight and she ended up shooting him.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office says an Alexandria man was arrested for the 87th time after an investigation into an attempted simple burglary. They say 54-year-old Jessie Swafford was out on bond at the time of his 87th arrest from a felony theft charge pending in court.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s office says an ATV crash over the weekend in Central claimed the life of a 6-year-old little boy and sent another child to a hospital. They say a group was riding on the four wheeler when the adult driver lost control and the vehicle flipped.

A group of lawmakers and stakeholders in the movie industry will look at a way to improve the state’s film tax credit program this week as the Louisiana-shot blockbuster “Focus” opened Friday night. New Orleans Senator JP Morrell says they aren’t trying to ditch the program but there are issues with it that need to be addressed…:

Common Core exams begin in two weeks and Abbeville Representative Bob Hensgens has pre-filed a bill that will prevent penalties if a student decides to opt out of testing. He says there is currently no law that levies penalties for not taking the tests, but that’s not what he’s hearing from school districts…

State Police say a single vehicle fatal crash in St. Landry Parish has killed an Opelousas man. Authorities say 32-year-old Reginald Jenkins drove off of the road while entering a curve, drove through a wooden fence, and struck a storage building. The car continued traveling and ended up overturned in a shallow canal. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

NBC’s hit show “The Voice” continues its blind auditions tonight and three contestants with Louisiana ties have already made it through. Michelle Southern reporting.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says a woman fatally shot her husband yesterday morning in Folsom. Authorities say Kacie Breen confessed to shooting her husband, Dr. Wayne Breen, after the two got into an altercation. No information has been released as to what prompted the violence. No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Students will begin Common Core exams in two weeks and Abbeville Representative Bob Hensgens has introduced a bill that will prohibit penalties if a student decides to opt out of testing. Education Superintendent John White says they will address opt-outs when they see how many students actually opt-out of the exams. But Hensgens says it shouldn’t be left up to White to determine if penalties should be levied if someone decides not to take the Common Core tests…

In their budget proposal, the Jindal administration is willing to scale back 526-million dollars in tax credits for businesses. The governor has highlighted 12 tax credits that could become non-refundable which would give the state more money to spend. But the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, Amite representative John Bel Edwards, says legislators should look beyond those tax credits as a way to raise revenue…

Chairman of the Republican House Delegation, state Representative Lance Harris of Alexandria is disappointed the governor didn’t suggest reeling back some of the film tax credits.

Some state lawmakers are looking at ways we can improve the state’s film tax credits. New Orleans Senator JP Morrell says they don’t want to lose the fact that Louisiana has become an industry film leader, but there are things that must be done to restore taxpayer confidence in the film tax credit program…

The Pelicans have now won five in a row after defeating the Denver Nuggets last night 99-92. Tyreke Evans lead all scorers with 22. Eric Gordon threw in 18 as the Pels handed the Nuggets their tenth straight home loss. The Pelicans improve to 32-27 and trail Oklahoma City by a game and a half for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Pels are on the road again tonight to take on Dallas.

In College Baseball over the weekend, The UL-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns took two of three from 25th ranked Alabama after yesterday’s 14-2 victory over the Crimson Tide. The Cajuns improve to 6-5 on the season and host Northwestern State Wednesday.

The second ranked LSU Tigers swept Princeton at Alex Box Stadium. The three wins improves LSU to 10-1. LSU returns to action tomorrow night when they host Stephen F. Austin.

ULM swept Sam Houston State at Warhawk field. This is the Warhawk’s first three-game series sweep in nearly a year.

LA Tech took two of three this weekend from Oral Roberts. And Nicholls State defeated Utah 4-1 in their weekend series finale. The Colonels won three out of four against the Utes at Ray Didier Field.

ULM officials will break ground today on a new end zone building at Malone Stadium. It’s the first new athletic facility built on campus in 1983 and it will feature a new locker room, a Hall of Fame area and new coaches’ offices. Coach Todd Berry says the project has been a long time coming for the program….

In college basketball, LSU won their third straight after defeating Ole Miss 73-63. Jarell Martin and Tim Quarterman lead all scorers with 18 each.

It was Louisiana Tech over UT-San Antonio 76-66. All five Bulldog starters scored in double figures. Tech has a game and a half lead over UAB for the Conference USA lead.

UL-Lafayette upset Georgia Southern 68-58. And ULM lost to Appalachian State 66-43. Despite the loss, the Warhawks remain in a three way tie for first in the Sun Belt.
