A lawsuit filed by some state lawmakers seeking to kill Common Core in public schools was thrown out by a Baton Rouge judge today. Judge Tim Kelley said the plaintiffs filed the case too late. Governor Bobby Jindal said he was disappointed, and indicated be would support appeal efforts, which those lawmakers will likely file. Several lawmakers have stated they will work to repeal Common Core in the upcoming legislative session.

Education Superintendent John White says a lawsuit filed to end the state’s use of Common Core in public schools has been dismissed. The lawsuit, which was supported by Governor Bobby Jindal, was filed by 17 state legislators claiming BESE and the state Department of Education did not properly enact the education standards. White says Judge Tim Kelly threw out the lawsuit earlier today.

In the NBA….the Pelicans beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 110 to 88 last night. But New Orleans remains two games back of Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot in the West. That’s because the Thunder topped the Suns 109-97 last night. New Orleans begins a three-game road trip against the Lakers on Wednesday.

Tonight is Game One of the C-B-I championship between U-L-M and Loyola of Chicago. Game one is tonight in Chi-town. Tip-off is set at 7 PM. The Ramblers are 22-and-13 and led by Milton Doyle and Christian Thomas, who each average 11 points a game.

State Police say two people are dead, including a 5-year-old, after a fatal crash in Lafayette Parish. They says the crash happened just before 8AM just north of Carencro. Authorities say the child was unrestrained at the time of the crash. There are reports of other injuries that occurred in the crash, but no details have been released. The investigation is continuing.

Fire officials say a mobile home fire in Caddo Parish has claimed the lives of a husband and wife. They say the fire broke out in the early hours of Monday morning and both 54-year-old Richard Fowler and his wife, 53-year-old Wanda Fowler were pronounced dead at the scene. The state Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate.

An online petition has been started by an 8th grade student from Buckeye High School in Deville to change the uniform policy in Rapides Parish. School leaders assert the current policy exists so that students can be easily identified on field trips. But 14-year-old Brandon Richardson says he would like to see the policy changed to one more similar to Rapides’ current “out of uniform” day rules…

Traps will be put out by the state Department of Agriculture and Forestry to track the invasive asian bug called the Emerald Ash Borer. Commissioner Mike Strain says they want to keep this insect from attacking the thousands of Ash trees in the Atchafalaya Basin, the Mississippi River delta and urban areas as well. He says the traps are large, purple sticky boxes that hang from trees…

State Police say a single vehicle crash in Franklin Parish has claimed the life of a Delhi woman. Authorities say, for unknown reasons, 52-year-old Teresa Wrather traveled off the roadway, struck a culvert, and her vehicle began to overturn. Wrather, who was unrestrained, was partially ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
