The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested the niece of a Sulpher woman found dead in her home with second degree murder. Commander James McGee says after a three month investigation they have arrested 54-year-old Sarah Parker in the death of 66-year-old Pamela Parker…

McGee says more arrests are expected in this case. He describes the victim as a retired nurse with a big heart who would let narcotics users stay in a shed on her property. Sarah called 9-1-1 in July to report the death of her aunt. McGee says, during the investigation, it became evident there was more to the story…

When you enter the booth today, Secretary of State Tom Schedler is reminding voters that there is a time limit to cast your ballot so lines can keep moving. He says according to state law, you only have three minutes to make your selections…:

Scheduler says they don’t really enforce the three minute limit, but he likes to remind voters that at three minutes an hour is 20 voters per hour…:

Schedler says his office handles various issues throughout election day such as a broken machine or someone confused about where they are supposed to vote. He says you can call 1-800-883-2805 if you have issues but he urges you to talk to the commissioner in charge at your precinct first…:

Hercules Offshore has announced plans to lay off 324 offshore Gulf of Mexico workers by the end of the year. The Houston-based company says the lay offs are a result of a decline in business. The cutback will affect employees who work out of Port Fourchon, Grand Isle, Cameron, Abbeville, Lafitte, Larose and Venice.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s office says a 26-year-old Lake Charles woman is under arrest in connection with the death of a 6-month-old baby. They say Brittney Woodcock is booked with negligent homicide after the baby died from being wedged between an adult bed and a wall while in the suspect’s care. Her bond is set a $750,000.

In the latest high school football polls….Rummel, Neville, UHIGH, Many and Mangham are all ranked number one. In Two-A, Many is number one and Catholic High of New Iberia has moved to number two, followed by Riverside, Calvary Baptist and Kinder.

In the NBA….the Pelicans shot just 33-percent from the field in a 93-81 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. New Orleans will try to snap its two-game losing streak tonight against the Charlotte Hornets, who are also off to a 1-and-2 start.

The state department of education says 44-percent of students in the voucher program reached a “basic” achievement level on standardized tests last year. That’s up from 42-percent the year prior. The state also says 23 of the 125 participating voucher schools did not perform well enough to accept new voucher students next year.

They say 54-year-old Sarah F Parker of Sulphur, who made the original 911 call, was developed as a suspect after she apparently told other people the details of the murder. The victim is identified as Pamela Parker.

Polls are open, Election Day is underway, and political pundits believe there will be a runoff in Louisiana’s US Senate race. Analyst Clancy Dubos says if this race goes to a December 6th runoff, it turns into a completely different election…

Most polls show Senator Mary Landrieu winning in the primary but losing in the runoff.

There’s a long list of candidates in the race for the sixth congressional district seat. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says it’s hard to say which Republican will be in the run-off. Dan Claitor, Paul Dietzel, Garret Graves, Craig McCullouch and Lenar Whitney have been the most active and Hogan says they represent different segments of the G-O-P….

He says Democrat Edwin Edwards has the best shot at making the run-off out of the 12-person field.
