Louisiana Tech Head Coach Skip Coach has named a starting quarterback. He announced Monday it would be Cody Sokol who won the job over the incumbent Ryan Higgens after a vigourous battle throughout fall camp. The Bulldogs play at Oklahoma in a 6pm game on Saturday.

New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees is expecting baby number 4 any day now. The QB wasn’t at practice on Monday. Brees already has three children…Baylen who is 5, Bowen who is 3 and 2-year-old Callen. He and his wife Brittany are expecting their first girl. The Saints play the Ravens on Thursday in the Mercedes Benz Superdome — it’s not clear if Brees will practice this week or play in the next game.

Former LSU safety Craig Steltz has been released from The Chicago Bears. The veteran can now sign with any team he chooses.

On Monday two LSU basketball players were named to the natioanl All-Sophomore team for the upcoming season by Athlon Sports. They are Jordan Mickey and Jarrell Martin. Mikey averaged nearly 13 points and 8 rebounds a game last season, while Martin averaged 10 points and four and a half rebounds, after a slow start to the season.

A seven-year-old girl from Clinton suffered moderate to serious injuries when she was hit by a vehicle after getting off the school bus. State Police say it happened in East Feliciana Parish on Monday afternoon. They say 67-year-old Hoyt Norwood of Baker was driving an SUV northbound on Highway 67 when he failed to yield to the school bus in front of him then hit the child. She was taken to the hospital. Norwood was cited.

The ACLU of Louisiana has sent a letter to the Plaquemines Parish School Board and South Plaquemines High School administrators regarding a student who has been suspended because of his hairstyle. The student is Rastafari and ACLU-LA Executive Director Marjorie Esman says his long dreadlocks are religiously mandated…:

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 20-year-old LaPlace man on charges of aggravated rape, aggravated kidnapping, and armed robbery. Captain Pat Yoes says the victim was walking in New Orleans when a vehicle stopped beside her and two subjects exited the vehicle…

Yoes says the subjects took the victim from there to St. John Parish and into St. Charles Parish, where she was raped. The victim was dropped off in Kenner where she flagged down someone to notify the Sheriff’s Office. Yoes says it took investigators a little time to figure out where the incident occurred…

The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office says they’ve arrested a 21-year-old Jennings man on several charges for allegedly breaking in to a family member’s home and assaulting her in front of her two young kids. Spokesman Chris Ivey says Sebastion Hanks allegedly kicked in the door of the victim and began beating her up. He says Hanks was booked into the Jefferson Davis Parish jail…

The Lafayette Police Department says a man is dead after he allegedly broke into a home. Spokeswoman Nicole Benoit says they were called by the shooter himself around 11 last night…

Benoit says the homeowner allegedly armed himself, confronted the alleged burglar, and fired two shots at him. The identity of the victim is being witheld upon notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.

That’s Coach Les Miles giving a scouting report on the Badgers. Miles once again made the statement that his two quarterbacks, Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris will play, but would not say who would start.

Louisiana Tech’s starting quarterback for the season opener against Oklahoma is still a mystery. The Bulldogs released a depth chart today that has Cody Sokul or Ryan Higgins as the starter against the Sooners.

Grambling State head Coach Broderick Fobbs is also staying mum on who his starting QB will be week one. The Tigers are at Lamar this Saturday.

The Saints returned to practice field this afternoon for the first time since beating the Colts on Saturday night. Quarterback Drew Brees performed well in that game, but he was not at practice today. Still waiting to hear something official from the Saints, but it could be that Brees is with his wife Brittany, who is expecting to give birth to their fourth child this week.

Lafayette Police are investigating a shooting that killed a man who allegedly broke into a home late last night. LPD Spokesperson Nicole Benoit says officers located the shooter who made the 9-1-1 call, where he said he saw an unknown person entering his home from across the street…:

Officers found the dead man in the back yard of that residence. The investigation is on-going.

She is one of the suspects in the killing and dismembering of Bourbon Street dancer Jaren Lockhart, and today, 30 year-old Margaret Sanchez pleaded not guilty to the crime. Sanchez entered that plea this morning in the Jefferson Parish Courthouse.

One of the suspects in the killing and dismemberment of Bourbon Street dancer Jaren Lockhart has pleaded not guilty to second degree murder and other charges. 30-year-old Margaret Sanchez entered her plea at the Jefferson Parish Courthouse in Gretna this morning.

The Lafayette Police Department says a man is dead after he allegedly broke into a home. Spokeswoman Nicole Benoit says the homeowner allegedly armed himself, confronted the alleged burglar, and fired two shots at him. Benoit says the alleged burglar then exited the home and then the homeowner fired two more shots…

Benoit says anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact authorities.

A Montegut man was killed after being ejected from his vehicle in a single vehicle accident in Bourg over the weekend. 19-year-old Austin Neil was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers inside the vehicle received minor injuries. Authorities say none in the vehicle were wearing seat belts. The crash remains under investigation. This is the fourth fatal crash in the Houma-Thibodaux area in the last week.
