Officials in St. John the Baptist Parish are increasing the chlorine levels in their water system after test results confirmed the presence of a deadly brain-eating amoeba. This brain-eating amoeba was previously detected in St. Bernard and DeSoto parishes and its killed three people in Louisiana since 2011, and in all three cases, it was from tap water getting up the victims’ nose. State health officer, Doctor Jimmy Guidry, says Louisiana is the only state in the nation that’s conducting tests for amoebas….

A US District Judge is hearing arguments today from an abortion rights organization requesting a temporary restraining order to keep state officials from enforcing a law they say would close Louisiana’s abortion clinics. The legislation, set to go into effect Monday, would require abortion doctors to obtain admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

Not surprisingly the teacher who is accused of having sex with a former student and a juvenile 16-year-old student has been fired from her job at Riverdale Christian Academy in Baton Rouge. Ashley Dowden was arrested after admitting that she had sex with a juvenile at the school and at that time she was placed on administrative leave but school leaders announced this week she is no longer employed with the school.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s office says the son of former LSU football coach Gerry DiNardo was arrested on felony drug and firearm charges Wednesday. They say 21-year-old Michael DiNardo was sent to jail with intent to distribute marijuana and possessing a fun with drugs.

Governor Bobby Jindal announced Wednesday that Bell Helicopter is going to start assembly operations at the Lafayette Regional Airport in 2016. He says it’ll happen in a new $26.3 million dollar facility and create an estimated 115 new jobs.

The Discovery Channel announced they’ve cancelled the show “Sons of Guns” after the star and founder of Red Jacket Firearms in Baton Rouge, was charged with the aggravated rape of a 12-year-old. William Hayden was arrested Tuesday by the US Marshal in East Baton Rouge Parish…his second arrest this month.

He says more people are also likely hitting the road this weekend because gas prices are so low being (statewide) about 17 cents lower than this time last year.

Officials have released the name of an armed man shot and killed by deputy rounds in Livingston Parish. He is 48-year-old Freddie W. LeBlanc. The incident happened in Albany in Livingston Parish around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Sheriff Jason Ard says deputies responded to a call about an attempted suicide with a gun. When deputies arrived, they found LeBlanc with a gun and an incident ensued and the man was shot and killed by deputy rounds. State Police is investigating.

UL-Lafayette Anthropology Professor Maranda Kles is a former Florida homicide investigator and says we do know White was intoxicated at the time of his arrest and tested positive for marijuana…

The Saints conclude their preseason schedule on Thursday with a home game against Baltimore. One of the position battles during fall camp has been at center. Based on playing time in the last preseason game, it appears Jonathan Goodwin over Tim Lelito will be the starting center, but Coach Sean Payton says he’s not ready to make that announcement…

The IndyCar Series announced today it plans to hold the inaugural Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana on April 12th. The race will take place at NOLA Motorsports Park in suburban New Orleans.

Ragin Cajuns Coach Mark Hudspeth says kicker Stephen Brauchle has left the program and plans to transfer. That means Hunter Stover will handle the kicking duties this season. UL Lafayette opens the season on Saturday at home against Southern. The game will be available on ESPN 3.

On today’s SEC teleconference, Coach Les Miles made it seem that defensive tackle Quentin Thomas will play against the Badgers on Saturday. There was a concern the former Breaux Bridge star would be lost for the season, because of a torn biceps.

On the high school level…West Monroe quarterback Jon Randall Belton is out for the season, because of a torn A-C-L injury. Belton injured the same knee last year as well. He’s considered one of the top dual threat quarterbacks in the country for the 2016 class and a big reason why the Rebels were picked as one of the favorites to win the Class Five-A state championship. Dustin Mitchell will take Belton’s spot as the Rebels starting Q-B.
