The man in jail for the Bourbon Street shooting in New Orleans that killed one and injured nine made a court appearance this morning. Twenty year-old trung Le faces one count of first-degree murder, and 9 counts of attempted first-degree murder, but his attorney says there is video evidence he says will clear his client.

After the initial stop, the driver, Eveyln Dargin, sped away from the arresting officer and after a short pursuit she struck a patrol unit. Anderson says she then started driving towards another deputy who ordered the vehicle to stop and that deputy fired his weapon.

Louisiana State Police has arrested a St. Maurice man on drug charges. Authorities say a search of 32-year-old Tony Martin’s residence turned up two firearms, methamphetamine with distribution paraphernalia, and marijuana. Martin was booked into the Winn Parish Detention Center on numerous charges including distribution of methamphetamine.

A federal judge has sentenced a Shreveport pastor to six-and-a-half years in prison for taking minors across state lines and having sex with them.  US Attorney Stephanie Finley says 54-year-old Andrea Lewis, pastor of Act on Faith Ministries, used church choir trips and other church related business to cover up the sexual abuse.  She says Lewis violated not only his oath as a minister, but also the trust of parents and these young children…

Louisiana State Police is investigating an officer involved shooting in Calcasieu Parish.  CPSO spokeswoman Kim Myers says one of their deputies fired and struck a woman who was approaching him at high speed in her vehicle.  The woman’s condition is unknown, but she has been arrested on several charges including attempted first degree murder of a police officer.

Some sad news to report out of the NFL,…former Cowboys fullback Robert Newhouse has passed away. Newhouse had been battling cancer and died at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 64. Newhouse rushed for nearly five thousand yards and 31 touchdowns and helped the Cowboys win Super Bowl 10.

In Major League Baseball Action…former Ragin Cajuns star Jonathan Lucroy hit two home runs to help the Brewers beat the Reds four to three. Lucroy’s second home run was in walk-off fashion.

Former LSU Tiger Aaron Hill drove three runs last night as the Diamondbacks beat the Tigers five to four.

A 40 year prison sentence has been given to a Bossier City man accused of killing his estranged wife and discarding her remains last November. In a plea deal, Robert Bond plead guilty of manslaughter instead of going to trial on second degree murder charges in the death of 46-year-old Annie Bond. Bossier Parish District Attorney Schuyler Marvin says he and the family are glad that this has come to a conclusion. Marvin says he’s happy this case was resolved so quickly and cannot praise the work of local law enforcement enough…

According to a new report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Louisiana ranks No. 47 in the nation for overall well-being of children. The report was published in the 25th edition of the Kids Count Data book and study co-author Laura Speer says one of the big factors hurting Louisiana’s score is the fact that we have one of the highest teen birth rates in the nation:

She also says Louisiana continues to get poor marks in education as we lag the nation in 4th and 8th grade reading and math scores and also has a poor graduation rate.

The Monroe City Council has passed a resolution that would allow a grant application that city officials believe can help the airport get direct flights to Denver. The report says Monroe is offering United Airlines $100,000 from the mayor’s economic development fund.

A middle school administrator is under arrest amid allegations he was exchanging naked pictures with a teenage girl over Facebook. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s office says 42-year-old Edwin Chastang of Baker was arrested and charged with computer aided solicitation of a minor. The suspect is the vice principal of Southeast Middle School in Baton Rouge and the 15-year-old victim had previously went to that school.

The man accused in the Bourbon Street shooting is due to appear today in court before a judge in New Orleans. Trung Le is being held without bond for one charge of first-degree murder and has a total of $4.5 million dollars bond for nine counts of attempted first degree murder. New Orleans Police continue to search for a second gunman and urge anyone with information on this person to contact Crimestoppers.
