The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office says one of the Marksville officers involved in the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy won’t be bonding out today because of a technical issue. It’s reportedly due to a state law banning attorneys from bonding out defendants. Sheriff Doug Anderson says the father of 23-year-old Norris Greenhouse Jr., who is an attorney, was preparing a million dollar property bond to get his released…:

Greenhouse Jr. and Derrick Stafford are accused of firing at least 18 shots on the vehicle the boy, Jeremy Mardis, and his father, Chris Few, were riding in. Early voting for the November 21st runoff continues today. As of this morning, there were 119-thousand early votes, compared to 88-thousand for the same time period in the primary. And Pollster John Couvillon of JMC Analytics says larger parishes are early voting heavily…

Voter turnout for the primary was 39-percent, which was lower than anticipated. Couvillon says based on early voting totals so far, the turnout for the runoff should be higher than the primary…

A new poll on the governor’s race published by The Advocate shows Democrat John Bel Edwards’ double-digit lead over Republican David Vitter slipping a bit. According to the survey, conducted by Market Research Insight, Edwards beats Vitter, 52 to 38 percent, if roughly 26-percent of African-Americans vote in the election. ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley doesn’t think these results really surprise anyone…

The survey shows Edwards support among white voters has fallen 10-percent while Vitter gained 8-percent support. Stockley says this could signify some backlash over Edwards’ negative “prostitutes over patriots” ad…

The University of New Orleans has released their 2015 Louisiana Gubernatorial Runoff Survey and it reveals that Edwards enjoys a 22 point lead over Vitter among likely voters. A new study out of Reading University finds drinking one to three glasses of champagne a week can aid in preventing Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Dr. Jeff Keller with LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center says champagne, like red wine, contains polyphenols, which is known to have great health benefits.

Keller says the study was based on trials in rats. He says grapes and other plants contain these polyphenols, which help to ward off predators in nature and apparently your memory as well….

 Multiple reports indicate one of the two officers charged in the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy in Marksville will post a 1-million dollar bond and be released.  23-year-old Norris Greenhouse, Jr, will reportedly put property up to secure the bond. Legal analyst Tim Meche says it is not unusual for something like this to happen.

Meche says once Greenhouse is released, he will not be working as a city marshal and won’t be able to carry a firearm. He says if he is out on bond, his travel will be restricted.

The two candidates for governor touched on several key policy issues during last night’s debate hosted by Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the Council for a Better Louisiana. They each have vastly different views on the topic of education. Democrat John Bel Edwards says he’d support charter schools, but only if school districts felt they had a need for them…:

Louisiana State Police arrested a Shreveport firefighter after he allegedly facilitated a meeting online with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl and her mother to have a sexual encounter with both. Trooper Matt Harris says 35-year-old Brian Garza was on duty when he chatted with the girl and arranged to meet her at a location. Harris says when Garza showed up, Troopers were waiting to arrest him…

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand releases new information regarding the spying scandal involving a person hired by the David Vitter Campaign. Normand says he’s been able to recover deleted recordings from the device of PI Robert Frenzel. He says one of the videos shows the owner of the PI firm trying to coerce someone into saying a blog written by Jason Berry on Vitter’s previous relationship with a prostitute, was false.

Edwards made the case that Vitter is a very ineffective senator and says if he’s elected governor, he’ll just continue Governor Bobby Jindal’s failed policies.

The US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled Louisiana can keep the final Angola 3 inmate in jail and try him again in the 1972 killing of a prison guard. The move reverses an order by a US District Judge that Albert Woodfox must be released and not face a third trial. Legal analyst Tim Meche says Woodfox’s other two convictions were tossed on technicalities.

Woodfox is the last incarcerated member of the Angola 3, who supporters say is being held on invalid convictions in isolation for years at the Louisiana State Penitentiary. Meche says most of the witnesses from the case are dead and a trial on a 40 year old case would present major issues:

Marksville state Representative Robert Johnson says he’s looking to determine under what authority the city marshal acts…

The two candidates for governor made the case on why they should be elected November 21^st. Vincent was shot and killed while trying to assist a motorist with his vehicle. Master Trooper Brooks David says these four men are being honored for their bravery and selfless service…

Bond for the two men arrested in the death of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis has been set at $1 million each. Norris Greenhouse, Jr. and Derrick Stafford are charged with second degree murder in the child’s death. Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino says the next major step in this case is a charging decision…

Mardis was killed when Marksville City Marshals fired on the vehicle he was riding in with his father last week. Ciolino says charges against the men could rise to first degree murder or potentially fall to negligent homicide depending on what the grand jury decides…

It’s reported that City Marshals fired 18 shots into the vehicle. State Police Col. Mike Edmonson says there is body cam footage of the incident and Ciolino says that evidence will be critical in moving this case forward…

Lafayette City-Parish President Mayor Joey Durel says the movie theater where a man opened fire on a crowd of people in July, will open its doors for the first time since the shootings in 10 days. On July 23rd, a crazed man shot and killed two women and injured several others at the Grand 16 shortly after a film had started. Durel says this is a symbolic development

Durel stresses that while this is another step in the way of healing for the community, he realizes the victims and their families will be suffering from this horrific event for many years. He says The Grand Theater will open its doors again on November 19th at 7pm…:

Louisiana Congressmen Ralph Abraham of Alto and Cedric Richmond of New Orleans introduce a bill which tries to prevent death of high school football players. Abraham says the bill will require the CDC to ask for input from parents, coaches, athletic trainers and other health care professionals to discover new methods to prevent future serious injuries or death.

Abraham’s office says since July 1^st, 11 high school football players have died around the country due to reasons related to football, including 16-year-old Tyrell Cameron from Franklin Parish High School. He says a young person shouldn’t lose their life by playing football…

He says several different types of symptoms have been reported on infected roses, including “witch’s broom”, excessive thorniness, and abnormal discoloration. Singh says they’re not sure if this disease has spread to other locations in the state…

The US House has passed a $325 billion dollar transportation package, and has now formed a conference committee with the Senate so that Congress can compromise on how to fund it. They have until November 20th to complete a report for the President’s desk, when highway funding is set to expire. Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves is on the compromise committee…:

The highway bill approved by the House calls for spending $261 billion on highways and $55 billion on transit over six years. The Senate passed similar legislation that guaranteed highway funding for three years. Graves says they are pushing programs for upgrades on nationally significant roadways that should be a priority — such as I-10, I-49 and I-12…:

Louisiana Oil and Gas Association President Don Briggs is not surprised  President Barack Obama said no to a proposal to build the Keystone Pipeline. Obama’s decision ended a seven-year debate over the Canada-to-Texas project that energy advocates said would create thousands of jobs and lower gas prices. Briggs says the President has never liked the idea of this pipeline

Early voting for the November 21st runoff election begins statewide Saturday. Polls will be open from 8:30AM to 6:00PM through November 14th. Early voting locations will be closed Sunday and again Wednesday, in honor of Veterans’ Day. Secretary of State Tom Schedler says now that we’re in the runoff, hopefully more Louisiana voters will cast their ballot…

Only 39-percent of voters turned out for last month’s primary election. Of course the marquee races on the ballot are for Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General. But Schedler says there are other races on the ballot that still need to be decided…

A slow-moving cold front is going to bring a lot of rain across the entire state over the next few days. Mike Marcotte Forecaster with The National Weather Service in Lake Charles says they’re anticipating 24 to 36 hours of moderate to heavy rains into Saturday.

 Marcotte says this rain event is going to cause temperatures to drop about 10 to 15 degrees into Monday. He says with this front, there comes the chance of more flooding.

 The Republican party of Louisiana is not happy with Republican Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne’s endorsement of Democrat John Bel Edwards for Governor. Chairman Roger Villere says he feels as if this is an act of betrayal to the Republican Party for all the years they supported Dardenne as a Republican elected official.

Villere says Edwards stands for everything Dardenne has been against during his years in office. He says it is a shame that Dardenne ended his political career on such a sour note and in all his years as GOP chairman, he hasn’t ever seen a popular former candidate flip flop parties the way Dardenne did.

 Spokesperson for the Louisiana Democratic Party Beau Tidwell says Villere called Dardenne the ‘Nick Saban of Louisiana Politics” because he’s stung and upset. He says this endorsement is great for the Edwards campaign and the cause in general.
