The Warhawks are on the road, where they’ll battle South Alabama. U-L-M has won six of its last seven, but the Warhawks are coming off a two-point defeat to Arkansas State.

In college baseball tonight…LSU will host Southeastern Louisiana. Doug Norman will start on the mound for the Tigers and he’ll be opposed by junior left-hander Domenick Carlini.

The Baton Rouge Advocate reports the Southeastern Conference has placed some recruiting restrictions on LSU’s football program. It’s the result of an unnamed LSU recruit, who planned on enrolling at the university in January, but decided not to. The recruit signed a financial aid agreement with LSU, which gave the Tigers unlimited contact with him. But since he decided on not going to LSU that unlimited contact is now considered illegal. The penalties include fewer recruiting evaluation days this year and LSU can’t sign early enrollee recruits to financial aid agreements for the next two years.

In other college football news…ESPN’s Brett McMuprhy reports that Louisiana Tech will play at Baylor in 2020 and 2022, and the Bulldogs will host the Bears in 2021 at Joe Aillet Stadium. The two teams haven’t played since 1996.

The weather is forcing several changes to the college baseball schedule. ULM and Louisiana Tech will not play Friday, but they’ll host doubleheaders on Saturday.

In the Sun Belt tonight…U-L Monroe is at South Alabama. The Warhawks are in a three-way tie for first place in the league standings with Georgia State and Georgia Southern. U-L Lafayette, who has won three in a row, is at Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Last night the Pelicans won their third straight, beating Brooklyn 102-96, Quincy Pondexter had 25 points to lead all scorers.

LSU and Southeastern Louisiana will face off in baseball tonight. Both teams will end up playing four games in four days as the Tigers host Princeton this weekend and the Lions will face the Big Ten’s Northwestern University. Tigers center fielder Andrew Stevenson is not expected to play tonight because of a tweaked hamstring.

The Ragin Cajuns baseball team heads to Birmingham today to face Alabama in a three-game series. Tomorrow’s game has been moved up three P-M, because it’s expected to be cold on Friday night.

There’s plenty of NFL news today. The Detroit Lions have released former Saints running back Reggie Bush. The 29-year-old was set to make over three-million dollars this season, but only rushed for 297 yards in 2014 as he battled an ankle injury.

The Falcons have signed kicker Matt Bryant to a contract extension. And there are reports that the Broncos and Quarterback Peyton Manning are working to restructure his current contract.

Big college basketball game tonight in Ruston as Louisiana Tech hosts UTEP with the winner taking over sole possession of first place in Conference USA. The Bulldogs have won 26 straight home games, while the Miners are the hottest team in the league, with a seven game winning streak. Tech head coach Michael White says UTEP likes to show a lot of different looks defensively…

Last night the Pelicans won their third in a row as they got past Brooklyn 102-96. Quincy Pondexter’s career-high 25 points lead the Pels with Tyreke Evans adding a double-double of 15 points and 11 assists. The Pels will try to make it four in a row when Miami comes to the Big Easy tomorrow night.

The Detroit Lions released veteran running back Reggie Bush yesterday. This move is not a surprise as it saves Detroit $1.7 million against the salary cap this season. Last season Bush tallied 297 yards on 76 carries and caught 40 passes for 253 yards. Bush spent five seasons with the Saints from 2006-2010.

LSU’s baseball game against Southeastern Louisiana that was scheduled for last night will be played tonight at Alex Box Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30.

The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters basketball team was to play at UTEP tonight, but that game has been postponed. Due to snow in the Ruston area yesterday, the team was unable to fly out for the game. However, the Techsters will travel today and the game will be played tomorrow afternoon at one o’clock. The team’s game Saturday, against Texas San Antonio, has been moved to Sunday.

The ULM men’s basketball team did travel safely to Mobile and they’ll play South Alabama tonight. The Warhawks are in a three-way tie for first place with Georgia Southern and Georgia State in the Sun Belt.

The LSU men’s basketball team avoided another bad loss on its NCAA Tournament resume when they beat Auburn 84-61 last night. The Tigers are now 20-and-8 overall, nine and six in the SEC. LSU’s next game is Saturday at home against Ole Miss. The Tigers beat the Rebels on their home floor earlier this season and Tiger Rag Editor Cody Worsham says it will not be easy to sweep the season series…

The Rebels are in action tonight as they host Georgia.

LSU’s baseball game against Southeastern Louisiana scheduled for tonight has been postponed. The two teams will play tomorrow night at Alex Box Stadium, with first pitch set for 6:30 PM.

Tonight the Pelicans host the Brooklyn Nets at the Smoothie King Center. Both teams are battling to get in the playoffs. The Nets currently occupy the final playoff spot in the East, as they have a one-game lead over Charlotte. The Pels are two and a half games back of Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot in the West.

Because of the snow that hit Ruston today, the Lady Techsters basketball team was not able to fly out for tomorrow night’s game against UTEP. So instead, LaTech will bus to Dallas, fly to El Paso on Thursday morning and play UTEP Friday afternoon at one o’ clock. Also there game Saturday, against Texas San Antonio, has been moved to Sunday.

The snow will not prevent tomorrow night’s game between La Tech and UTEP on the men’s side. Those two teams will still battle for first place in Conference USA. The Bulldogs have won 26 straight games at home.

In college baseball last night…McNeese State and U-L Lafayette battled for 17 winnings and it was the Cowboys who prevailed five to four. Connor Lloyd drove home the winning run, denying Ragin Cajuns coach Tony Robichaux his 1,000th career win. Tonight’s LSU-Southeastern Louisiana game has been pushed back to tomorrow.

There’s a couple of mock drafts that have the Saints selecting LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins with their 13th overall pick. NFL draft analyst Mike Detillier says the Black and Gold can’t go wrong with that pick…

In other NFL news…the Ravens have released returner Jacoby Jones. The New Orleans native spent three seasons in Baltimore, winning a Super Bowl with the Ravens.

In college football…LSU has received a verbal commitment from a five star cornerback out of Florida, Saivion Smith.

ULM has received final approval from the state to construct an end zone facility at Malone Stadium. Groundbreaking is set for next week. The new facility will contain a new locker room, coaches offices and a Hall of Fame area.

Southeastern Louisiana has hired Blake Williams as its defensive coordinator, he’s the son of former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

LSU got another big game last night from Jarell Martin, who scored 25 points. LSU’s next game is Saturday at home against Ole Miss.

McNeese State shot 52.5-percent from the field last night as they defeated Central Arkansas 77-60 in Southland Conference basketball action. The Cowboys were lead by Keelan Garrett, who knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to a game high 25 points. McNeese stands with a 5-10 conference record and will next host Nicholls State Saturday afternoon.

Today is the deadline for the three physician team to be assembled that will perform the court ordered psychiatric examination of Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson in the legal fight involving his former heirs. Legal analyst Tim Meche says doctors will first sit down with Benson and ask him questions to test his memory…

He says these examinations are meant to determine whether Benson is capable of making reasonable decisions concerning his care of his person and his property. The physician team has until March 13 to report their findings.

In college baseball yesterday, it took 17 innings to decide it, but McNeese State edged UL-Lafayette 5-4 at Tigue Moore Field in Lafayette. Tyler Day picked up the win for the Cowboys and credit Austin Briggs with the save. Logan Stoelke takes the loss for the Cajuns. A total of 15 pitchers were used in the game.

The LSU men’s basketball team looks for a much needed win tonight against Auburn. The Bayou Bengals lost to Auburn on a February fifth and another loss to Bruce Pearl’s team will not help their chances in getting into the NCAA Tournament.

Tonight on the baseball diamond, Ragin Cajuns Coach Tony Robichaux goes for career win number one-thousand as the UL Lafayette baseball team hosts McNeese State. Robichaux coached and played at McNeese, so you can expect the emotions will be riding high.

Weather has postponed the U-L-M-Southern Miss game today. Louisiana Tech’s match-up with ULM tomorrow has also been postponed, while the LSU-Southeastern Louisiana contest is still on for tomorrow night.

The brackets are out for the upcoming high school basketball playoffs. The top seeds from Class C, all the way to Class 5A are Atlanta, Florien, Madison Prep, Riverside Academy, University High in Baton Rouge, Salmen and Natchitoches Central, who won the Five-A title last year.

LSU cornerback Jalen Collins ran a 4.48 at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. NFL Draft analyst Mike Detillier says with that speed, Collins could be a first round pick on April 30th….

Detillier also expects LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins will be a top 15 pick in the first round as well. The Saints have the 13th pick and Detillier says if Collins is still around, the black and gold could possibly select him.

Southeastern Louisiana has named Blake Williams as its new defensive coordinator, he’s the son of former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Blake Williams has plenty of coaching experience in the NFL and served as St. Louis de facto defensive coordinator in the 2012 season, when his father was suspended for his role in the “Bountygate” scandal.

Big game tonight for the LSU men’s basketball team as the Tigers look to avoid a second loss to Auburn this season. LSU’s NCAA Tournament resume has a few bad losses on it and it can’t afford another loss to Auburn, if the Tigers want to be a part of March madness. Tip-off is at 6 PM on ESPN U.

Also tonight…McNeese State is at Central Arkansas. The Cowboys are 4-and-10 in league play and lost by five points to Lamar on Saturday.

In action last night…Alabama State edged Southern 56-54, UNO topped Southeastern Louisiana 74-73. Tevin Broyles scored the winning bucket with a layup with three seconds left and Northwestern State thumped Nicholls State 79-57. Zeek Woodley had 25 points and becomes the second fastest player in Northwestern history to score 1,000 points in his career.

Tonight in Lafayette, Ragin Cajuns coach Tony Robichaux will go after his 1,000th career win as his U-L Lafayette baseball team will host Robichaux’s alma mater, McNeese State. Robichaux has won 736 games at U-L Lafayette, and he’s posted 263 victories at McNeese.

U-L-M’s game against Southern Miss today at four o’ clock has been postponed because of the weather. Northwestern State at Baylor and Southern versus Nicholls State has also been posted.

LSU outfielder Beau Jordan will have survery later this week on his right knee and he could be out for the season. Jordan suffered the injury in the Tigers 16-2 win over Boston College on Saturday.

Big win for the Pelicans last night as New Orleans rallied back from an 18-point deficit to beat Toronto 100-97. The Pels won the game without Anthony Davis, who has an injured shoulder. Luke Babbitt led the way with 18 points as he hit four three-pointers.

Six Pelicans scored in double figures as they were able to hold off the Toronto Raptors last night 100-97. Luke Babbitt lead the way for New Orleans with 18, followed by Alexis Ajinca’s 16. Despite the absence of Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson due to injury, the Pels improve to 29-27 on the season, two games behind Oklahoma City for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference.

In college basketball, Northwestern State flies past Nicholls State 79-57. The Demons’ Zeek Woodley lead all scorers with 25, while the Colonels were lead by T.J. Carpenter’s 19. Northwestern State is 11-4 in the Southland and have now won four in a row.

Also in the Southland, Nate Frye scored 17 and Kevin Brown added 13 as UNO edged Southeastern Louisiana 74-73. The Privateers improve to 4-10 in league play, while the Lions fall to 6-8. Southeastern is in eighth place and holding on to that final conference tournament spot.

In the SWAC, Jamel Waters hit a jump shot with a half second remaining to give Alabama State a 56-54 win over Southern last night. The Jags were lead by Trelun Banks’ 11 points. The loss puts Southern a game and a half out of first place in the SWAC behind Alabama State and Texas Southern.

LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri announced that freshman outfielder Beau Jordan will undergo knee surgery Thursday to repair a tear in his lateral meniscus. Mainieri says it’s possible Jordan could be back in four to six weeks, but if the injury is worst than feared, the former Barbe star could sit out the rest of the season.

Louisiana Tech’s Tyler Clancy has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the week. The junior left-hander threw seven innings of one-hit baseball in the Bulldogs win over Arkansas Pine Bluff on Friday.

Because of inclement weather, ULM has moved up the start time for its baseball game against Southern Miss this afternoon. First pitch is now scheduled at four P-M.

Northwestern State’s game at 25th ranked Baylor today has been cancelled. But the two teams hope to play tomorrow at four P-M.

The team says Davis is out one to two weeks with a right shoulder sprain, while Anderson is expected to miss two to four weeks with an MCL sprain in his right knee. Anderson suffered the injury in Saturday’s win over the Heat.

In college basketball tonight….Nicholls State hosts Northwestern State. The Colonels are in ninth place in the Southland Conference and need to win some games if they want to get into the league tournament. The Demons are 10-and-4 in league play and have won three in a row.

Also tonight…Southeastern Louisiana hosts UNO. The Lions have won four of their last five. And Southern hosts Alabama State on ESPN U tonight. The Jaguars trail the Hornets by a half game for first place.

LSU is at Auburn tomorrow night. The Tigers are in fifth place in the league standings with a record of eight and six.
