At this moment, it doesn’t look like suspended running back Trey Holly will be a part of the LSU offense. Holly faces a gun charge from a shooting that injured two people in his hometown in Union Parish. Holly’s case was scheduled for a status conference today, but it has been pushed back until September 18th. Holly’s attorney Mike Small says move evidence in the case is expected to be presented and that’s the reason for the delay…

LSU first baseman Jared Jones, who slugged 28 home runs last season for the Tigers, will return for his junior season. Also returning for the Tigers, starting shortstop Michael Braswell. Both players were not taken in the 20-round Major League Baseball Draft.

Former LSU pitcher Paul Skenes started last night’s All-Star game for the National League and threw a scoreless inning with no strikeouts. Former Northwestern State star David Fry had an RBI single as the American League came back to beat the National League five to three.

Grambling State quarterback Myles Crawley has been named the SWAC preseason offensive player of the year. Crawley threw for 23-hundred yards and 16 touchdowns last season. He says the preseason honor will drive him to be better…

Suspended LSU running back Trey Holly was set to have a court hearing tomorrow, but it has been pushed back until September 18th because more evidence is expected to be presented and the attorneys working the case want more time. Holly is facing a charge of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality from a shooting that injured two people in Union Parish in February. Holly has said he’s innocent.

Gambling charges against former LSU receiver Kayshon Boutte have been dropped. He was arrested in January for placing bets on online when he was under the age of 21. The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s office says Boutte has completed a gambling awareness program and executed a self-ban. Legal Analyst Tim Meche says it’s a classic case of prosecutorial discretion because no one was harmed…

SWAC Media day was today. Alabama State has been picked to win the East, Alcorn State is the preseason favorite in the West. Grambling is picked to finish third in the West, Southern in fourth place. Two LSU pitchers were selected by the New York Yankees in the Major League Baseball draft. Right-hander Thatcher Hurd went in the third round to the Bronx Bombers and in the sixth round, New York took left-hander Griffen Herring, raising the possibility Herring will not return to LSU.

The Rockies selected LSU relief pitcher Fidel Ulloa in the seventh round. Left-hander Nate Ackenhausen went in the 10th round to the Royals.

Power hitting first baseman Jared Jones has yet to be drafted, raising the chances he returns to LSU.

Ragin Cajuns All-American pitcher L-P Langevin was taken in the fourth round by the Royals.

The Chicago White Sox selected Louisiana Tech outfielder Cole McConnell in the tenth round after hitting .378 for the Bulldogs last season. The Chicago Cubs drafted Nicholls first baseman Edgar Alvarez.

Tonight is the Major League Baseball All-Star game. Former LSU star Paul Skenes will start for the National League and throw one inning. First pitch is at 7 PM.

Two pitchers from LSU were drafted by the New York Yankees today. Thatcher Hurd went in the third round to the Bronx Bombers and the Yankees selected Griffin Herring in the sixth round. Hurd was not expected to return to LSU next season, but there’s a chance Herring will come back. It all depends on the contract offer he gets from the Yankees.

Also in the fourth round, Haughton native and former Arkansas second baseman Peyton Stovall was selected by the Reds.

Former LSU star Paul Skenes will be the starter for the National League in tomorrow night’s All-Star game. Skenes is only expected to pitch one inning in the Mid-Summer Classic.

Right before the start of the Major League Baseball draft, Catholic High right-hander William Schmidt announced he’s heading to LSU, passing on a chance to pitch professionally. Schmidt could have been a first-round pick, but the avid LSU fan says he wants to win championships for the Purple and Gold.

Baton Rouge Catholic High School right-handed pitcher Will Schmidt removed his name from the MLB Draft yesterday to play for LSU. Schmidt was expected to go as high as the top 15 picks and is ranked as the number one righty in high school baseball. He becomes the top-ranked high school prospect to ever come to Baton Rouge.

LSU third baseman Tommy White was selected by the Oakland Athletics 40th overall in the second round of the MLB Draft last night. The junior slugger finishes his collegiate career batting .355 with 75 homers and 249 RBI in 187 games.

LSU left-handed pitcher Gage Jump will be joining Tommy Tanks after being selected 73rd overall by the A’s. The redshirt sophomore posted a 3.47 ERA with 101 strikeouts in 83 innings for the Tigers this year after transferring from UCLA.

Tigers ace Luke Holman was selected by the Cincinnati Reds with the 71st-overall pick. The junior righty posted a 2.75 ERA with 127 strikeouts in 91 innings this season. He’ll join No. 2 overall pick, Wake Forest pitcher Chase Burns with the Reds.

Debarge was named the Cajuns’ second consensus All-American this year after batting .355 with 21 homers and 72 RBI and earning Sun-Belt Player of the Year honors. Three-star Destrehan safety Jhase Thomas committed to LSU Saturday. The 6-foot-1 prospect is ranked as the No. 38 safety in the nation and 17th overall in Louisiana.

Three-star cornerback Kyle Johnson of Bunkie High School announced his commitment to the University of Houston. Johnson is the 37th-ranked cornerback in the nation and the 12th-ranked Louisana prospect in the class of 2025 according to 247Sports.

Former LSU third baseman Josh Smith hit two 2-run homers for the Texas Rangers yesterday to lead them to a 4-2 win over the Astros. Smith is currently having the best season of his three-year career and just missed out on earning his first All-Star selection. The 26-year-old accounted for 2 of the Rangers’ 3 hits on the day to clinch the season series over the Astros.

Guard Javonte Smart will suit up for the Bulls after stints with the Bucks, Heat, and 76ers. Smart was a coveted recruit out of Scotlandville High in Baton Rouge and played 3 stellar seasons for the Tigers from 2018-2021. Forward Darius Days will represent the 76ers following a four-year career at LSU from 2018-2022 where he earned All-SEC second team honors his senior year. Forward KJ Williams followed coach Matt McMahon from Murray State for his first season at LSU and will play for the OKC Thunder. Williams led the 2022 Tigers with almost 18 points a game and was named to the All-SEC second team. Forward Will Baker transferred from Nevada to LSU for his final collegiate season last year. The 7-footer went undrafted after averaging 11 points and nearly 5 rebounds a game and earned a spot on the Pistons summer league roster.

LSU basketball announced they’ll be facing Pittsburgh in the opening game of the inaugural Greenbrier Tip-Off November 22 at the famed Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. with the winner facing either Wisconsin or Central Florida in the championship.

Former LSU Pitcher Paul Skenes threw a no-hitter through seven innings in the Pirates 1-0 win over the first-place Brewers yesterday. Skenes struck out 11 with 99 pitches matching his career high set in his first road start against the Cubs May 17 which was another no-hit outing. Skenes joins Nolan Ryan as the only pitchers with multiple 6-plus inning outings with zero hits and 11 or more strikeouts in one season. The start was Skenes’s eighth straight with at least 7 strikeouts, the longest such streak in Pirates history. The MLB All-Star Game is set for July 16 as Skenes strengthens his campaign to receive a starting spot. His 11 starts this season would tie the fewest in a career entering an All-Star start.

The Pelicans will tip-off Summer League play today in Las Vegas against the Timberwolves. All 30 NBA teams will play four games over the next 8 days with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. New Orleans summer league roster is headlined by last year’s 14th overall pick Jordan Hawkins and this year’s additions, Baylor center Yves Missi and Kentucky guard Antonio Reeves. They’ll take on Minnesota and eighth-overall pick Rob Dillingham at 4:00.

LSU announced upgrades coming to Death Valley today as part of their 100 Years of Tiger Stadium celebration. The school will add new video boards in the north end zone and corners of the south endzone with the northern board set to be double the size of its predecessor. It will be flanked by two new speaker towers, and 11 new LED ribbon boards have been added around the stadium with LED lights also installed in the Chute and field tunnels. LSU also launched the Give 100 campaign where fans receive commemorative items with a contribution to Bayou traditions, the Official Collective of LSU Athletics. The full 100th anniversary celebration will take place October 12th when the Tigers host Ole Miss. Former LSU safety Jamal Adams agreed on a deal with the Titans. The seven-year vet and former all-pro and pro bowler was the sixth overall pick by the Jets in 2017 and spent the last five seasons in Seattle. the 28-year-old had an NFL record 9.5 sacks as a safety in his debut season with the Seahawks but has struggled with injuries and setbacks since then.
