The fan who casually walked onto the field during the LSU/Southern game Saturday night in Death Valley has been issued a misdemeanor summons. Police say Marwan Okeil strolled out onto the field then stood with his hands on his hips before being apprehended by officers and taken to the LSU Police Department. Okeil was faces charges of criminal trespassing and resisting an officer.

An advocacy group is seeking compensation for a man wrongly convicted, who served decades in prison. 62-year-old Malcolm Alexander’s rape conviction was overturned in 2018 after serving 38 years in Angola. But Innocence Project New Orleans executive director Jee Park says Alexander was denied compensation last year, and they are appealing the ruling. In Louisiana, it’s $40,000 for each year of wrongful imprisonment…:

A 71 year old man from Calhoun went gator hunting for the first time last week on Lake St. John and ended up catching one that he thought weighed around 400 pounds. Jerry Sepulvado of Calhoun he quickly learned the gator was far bigger:

A Jefferson Parish man who was cleared of a rape conviction after serving nearly 38 years in prison is now fighting for compensation. 62-year-old Malcolm Alexander was exonerated by DNA evidence and freed in 2018. Jee Park is the Executive Director of Innocence Project New Orleans. She says compensation is long overdue for Alexander…:

To make traffic easier when the game is over, officials say contraflow will be in effect, and only outbound traffic will be allowed; meaning ALL lanes will be one-way leading away from Tiger Stadium. The game is completely sold out.

Where is the country’s highest-priced flood insurance? You guessed it. Right here in Louisiana. Capital area Congressman Garret Graves says a new study from the independent non-profit group “First Street” crunched the numbers. He says he’s seen some constituents’ flood coverage go from less than $600-a-year to over $8000, which is ludicrous. Graves says FEMA should be investing in infrastructure to protect areas vulnerable to flooding, instead of overcharging policyholders…:

He says only intervention by Congress will slow it down.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says she will not reimburse the city for almost $30-thousand in travel upgrades during recent trips to Miami, D.C. and France. She says the additional dollars were for her (quote) “safety, not luxury.” The upgrades paid for Cantrell to fly first class while her staff flew coach. Cantrell‘s extravagances are one of the reasons cited for the recall petition against her. Others are angry she seemingly sided with a teen carjacker over his victims.

 

A movie about a Louisiana man whose mother gave him up for adoption – instead of aborting him – opens in theaters nationwide this weekend. It’s called “Lifemark”…:

Southern and LSU meet this evening in an historic football matchup, but to leaders of the two schools, it’s much more than a game. It’s a chance to bridge historic racial, cultural, and academic divides. Southern’s chancellor Dennis Shields says the two schools have a new five year plan to collaborate more closely in a range of academic areas. But Shields says the new connections are about much more than agreements on paper…:

Tailgating is already underway outside Tiger Stadium, and LSU officials say post-game traffic will be contra-flowed. All lanes will be outbound traffic to get folks away from the campus and back home as quickly as possible.

The statistical peak of hurricane season is today, and right now there are no weather systems in the Atlantic or Caribbean that pose a threat to Louisiana’s coast.

 

Congressman Garret Graves says according to an independent study, Louisiana is the most overpriced state in the country for flood insurance. Graves says FEMA tried to raise flood premiums during the Obama Administration but there was an intervention…and a second attempt during the Trump White House was also circumvented…:
