Call it a weapon in the arsenal to combat illegal drug sales on the street. CVS pharmacies say they now have time delay pharmacy safes in all Louisiana CVS stores, which should make a big dent in pharmacy burglaries and thefts. CVS’s Tom Moriarty says the time-lock technology is tested and proven effective…:

He says the time-lock safes deter thieves from coming back and hitting the store again, because they are take too much time and effort to crack.

Thibodaux Police continue to search for the gunman who fatally shot 15-year-old Jarian Cole from Assumption Parish on Saturday afternoon. Lt. Clint Dempster says Cole was shot multiple times in the back, and they are working overtime to find the killer…:

State Police report an elderly woman was killed Monday in a head-on crash in Ouachita Parish. Troopers say 72-year-old Beverly Justice was a passenger in Buick minivan driving down Highway 151, when a Ford pickup crossed the center line; crashing into them. The two drivers were also seriously hurt. The crash is under investigation.

He says they are working long hours to find the boy’s killer.

A Shreveport teen gets 85 years in prison for a July 2020 shooting that left one person dead and another badly hurt. 19-year-old Derion Jamison as found guilty last month of murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault with a firearm. The shooting were due to an argument. Jamsion told the victim he felt “disrespected.”

A Caddo Parish substitute P.E. teacher is in jail; accused of paying for boys to bully and assault another student. Caddo Sheriff’s spokesperson Bia Rolden says 24-year-old Aadrina Smith was present when the attack took place…:

Terrebonne Parish deputies arrest a local man, after a computer repair shop alerted them to child and animal porn on their customer’s PC. 72-year-old Kirk Bonvillain took the machine in for repairs. He told officers he got the images while “working overseas.” He is being held on $100-thousand bond, and faces a long list of charges.

 

CVS Pharmacies in Louisiana add an extra measure of security against prescription drug thefts; time delay pharmaceutical safes. CVS Chief Policy Officer Tom Moriarty says criminals steal drugs from pharmacies and sell them illicitly on the street; leading to higher crime and even overdose deaths. He says using time-lock technology – which is virtually un-crackable – will discourage that…:

Caddo Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrest a substitute P.E. teacher; accused of encouraging students to bully a classmate. CPSO spokesperson Bia Rolden says detectives became aware of the allegations against 24-year-old Aadrina Smith, of an incident that happened in late August…:

Reportedly 5 bucks each, for five of them to do the deed. Three actually took part. Smith faces charges of contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and malfeasance. She has been terminated.

U.S. Senate candidate Gary Chambers says – contrary to the opinion of many political experts – he has a real chance to beat Senator John Kennedy this fall. Kennedy was elected in 2016. Chambers says, in that election, 585-thousand black voters turned out to vote for Hillary Clinton…:

Chambers has released campaign videos wherein he’s seen burning a Rebel flag and even smoking marijuana. State Democrat leaders – including the Governor – have thrown their support behind Luke Mixon in that race.

He says morning low temperatures should only dip into the 70’s in coastal areas. He says the less humid weather should be with us at least through Thursday.

 

This week, representatives of the trucking industry are here to remind you how important truck drivers are. It’s National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. Louisiana Motor Transport Association head Renee Amar says, in observation, Wallace Simien III, of Jennings, is the Louisiana Motor Transport Association’s truck driver of the year…:

Gas prices continue going downward for a 13th straight week. The statewide average price of regular gas is now at $3.19. That’s down 12-cents from a week ago…down 40-cents from a month ago…but still over 20-centas higher than a year ago. Cheapest gas was in Baton Rouge, at $2.75-a-gallon.

Over the weekend, we reached the statistical peak of the annual hurricane season…with no weather systems in the Atlantic, the Gulf or the Caribbean that could pose any threat to Louisiana’s coast. The region is quiet and mostly calm right now. Hurricane season ends November 30th. Anything can happen between now and then.

On Jim Engster’s “Talk Louisiana” program today, Chambers said, if he can get into a December runoff, he can beat Kennedy…:

Police in Eunice arrest a man for shooting at the Mamou Police Chief back in April. The Chief was responding to a “shots fired” call, when he found himself being fired upon. The suspect fled the scene. The investigation eventually led to 18-year-old Louis Jones, of Eunice, being apprehended and placed behind bars.

A high-ranking Democrat in the legislature endorses former Navy fighter pilot Luke Mixon for U.S. Senate. Shreveport Representative Sam Jenkins is chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. He says Mixon has the “right stuff” to replace Senator John Kennedy…:

Jenkins says this is a personal endorsement; not one of his caucus. Also in the race, New Orleans non-profit head Syrita Steib and Baton Rouge activist Gary Chambers.
