A rideshare driver for Lyft has been arrest and accused of kidnapping and raping an intoxicated passenger in Jefferson Parish.  Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says the incident happened late last month, and was being investigated by New Orleans Police.  Upon the receiving evidence to track down the driver, NOPD turned to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies where the crime had occurred.

Authorities say 30 year old Yousef Hamed picked up the victim from a bar and instead of taking her to her home, he then took her to his home in Harvey and raped the woman.

It’s been frigid in north Louisiana, but National Weather Service Shreveport meteorologist Mario Valverde says expect temperatures to begin rising starting midday today. Valverde says once the warm up happens, it is likely premature to packing away your winter clothes for the year.

The IRS is warning the public about “ghost preparers” ahead of filing taxes, where someone will prepare a return for a fee and leave the tax payer with an inaccurate return before vanishing.  IRS spokesperson Raphael Tulino says ask questions when going through the process and word of mouth is always the best way to go to avoid the scam.

The US Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision, has temporarily halted the implementation of a Louisiana law that would have required that abortion providers have admitting privileges at a local hospital.  Attorney General Jeff Landry says it’s interesting to note the four liberal justices on the court were joined by a Chief Justice who was appointed by President George W Bush.

The regulation, passed back in 2014, has been blocked repeatedly, but last month was ruled constitutional by an Appellate Court.
