The four-term governor passed away Monday morning, a week after he entered hospice care. Edwards was surrounded by close family and friends when he died at his home in Gonzales. He is survived by his wife Trina and his five children. He was 93.

While some law enforcement officers have voiced their support of Governor John Bel Edwards’ veto of concealed carry legislation, Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington says it’s a second amendment right issue at stake and the required training to receive a permit is not adequate.

The original legislation passed on a veto-proof vote.

The first of six-monthly child tax credits begin on Thursday. Parents must have filed their taxes in the last two years and even parents who didn’t receive income are also eligible. Congressman Troy Carter says visit the child tax credit portal at IRS.gov and it will guide you on how to receive payments.
