Louisiana will hold its first Black Bear hunt since 1987 in December in select parishes in northeast Louisiana and the permit lottery application opens Thursday.

Homicides in New Orleans have fallen by nearly half from 2022, but according to the Times-Picayune, the number of murders in the French Quarter is at a 17-year-high. Seven people have been killed in the French Quarter this year and authorities do not have a firm answer on why there’s been an uptick in murders in the popular tourist destination.

State Senator Blake Miguez is seeking a legal opinion from the state attorney general over the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus police enforcing a one-thousand foot gun free zone perimeter around the university’s museum in downtown Lafayette. Today marks the four-year anniversary of Hurricane Laura’s landfall, which caused considerable amount of damage in southwest Louisiana and into central and north Louisiana.
