Attorney General Jeff Landry is out of the running for the 2019 governor’s race after announcing he’s running for re-election. Landry said in August he would run for governor if no Republicans who could legitimately threaten Governor Edwards declared, but that he didn’t want to jump into a crowded field. He says businessman Eddie Rispone, and another mystery candidate should be able to get the job done.

And speaking of people who might run for governor, Senator John Kennedy is fighting it out with Congress to get a six month extension on the national flood insurance program, as he says the chances for long term renewal in the lame duck session are slim. The Senator says there’s been a particularly pervasive impression from non-coastal politicians that the National Flood Insurance Program is just a giveaway to the wealthy, and not a crucial protection for working class water front folks.

Republican Senators Rubio and Cassidy have co-signed Kennedy’s bill, along with Democrat Bob Menendez.
