An Avoyelles Parish jury found a former Marksville City Marshall guilty of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy and the injuring of his father. Derrick Stafford could face up to 40 years in prison and will be sentenced on March 31st. Stafford took the stand Friday and said he fired into the vehicle because he believed the child’s father, Chris Few, would use the vehicle as a weapon. Norris Greenhouse Jr, the other officer involved, is scheduled to go to trial later in the year.
It’s Election Day in 37 parishes across the Bayou State. Secretary of State Tom Schedler is encouraging voters to exercise their right to vote. Schedler says most of the elections are local but several bigger seats on on the ballot. He says the severe weather this morning could affect turnout.

State Police say at least two people have died after a two vehicle wreck just west of Greensburg. Authorities says the crash occurred on LA 10 three miles out of the town. An exact number of deaths have not been released but troopers confirmed multiple fatalities.
