The experimental drug – donanemab – developed by Eli Lilly slowed cognitive decline by 35% in Alzheimer’s patients who participated in a Phase three trial. LSU Pennington Biomedical Research Center Professor Dr. Owen Carmichael says the medication breaks up the sticky amyloid plaques that cause cognitive decline in the brain.
