A grand jury in Union Parish has handed down indictments against five law enforcement officers involved in the 2019 fatal arrest of Ronald Greene, an unarmed Black motorist, who was beaten and tased by officers on the side of a rural road in Union Parish. Master Trooper Kory York faces the harshest charges, negligent homicide. The other officers are facing either malfeasance and obstruction of justice charges. The National Weather Service says the two tornadoes responsible for three deaths in Louisiana between Tuesday and Wednesday were E-F-2 tornadoes, both with wind speeds of 115 to 130 miles per hour. Despite all of the damage from the tornado outbreak, Governor Edwards does expect it to be enough to qualify for federal assistance.
