The defending national champion LSU baseball team started 2024 yesterday with an 11-8 win over VMI. Hayden Travinski had three hits, including a solo home run. Jared Jones started the scoring with a three-run blast in the second inning. VMI was fifth in the country in hitting last season and they brought back several of their hitters. Also…La Tech over Northern Colorado nine to three, Missouri State beat ULM ten to four, the Cajuns edged Wright State three to two, Texas A-and-M blanked McNeese 15 to 0, and Nicholls shutout Sacred Heart 16 to 0.

The LSU men’s basketball team has a big challenge today as they visit 11th-ranked South Carolina. The Tigers are 4-7 in the SEC, while the Gamecocks are 9-3 and they win with defense. Tip-off is at 2:30.

The Ragin Cajuns and ULM also have tough challenges on the road. U-L Lafayette is at Sun Belt leader Appalachian State for a 3:30 tip-off. ULM visits Troy at 4:00. The Trojans are 10-3 in league play.

Louisiana Tech hosts FIU at 2 PM. They need to win to stay in first place in Conference USA. McNeese is at Nicholls in a game that features the two top two teams in the Southland.

LSU running back Trey Holly’s attorney says his client is innocent of the charges in front of him. Holly is one of three people charged with attempted murder in a shooting that took place last Friday in Farmerville.
