The Calcasieu District Attorney’s office is seeking an August 19th execution date for Jason Reeves, who was has been on death row since 2004 for the sexual assault and murder of four-year-old Mary Jean Thigpen. But the state has not performed an execution since 2010, because it lacks the drugs needed to carry out a lethal injection. District Attorney John DeRosier says he’ll talk with the department of corrections about their options…

Two people are behind bars after gunshots were fired during a one-year-old child’s birthday party at Zemurray Park in Hammond. Nobody was hit by a bullet. The alleged shooter has been identified as a 16-year-old and he’s been charged with attempted first-degree murder. Police also arrested 33-year-old Charlene Jackson on suspicion of principal to attempted first-degree murder.
