State Police has suspended its defensive tactics training programming after several cadets at the Training Academy had to be treated for multiple injuries. One cadet reportedly had a fractured arm. Despite an increase in the number of women running for a legislative seat, Louisiana will continue to have a low percentage of females in the state legislature. UL Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says the national average is 30% while in Louisiana it is 16%.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has set up a mechanism that allows hunters to test their harvested deer for the presence of chronic wasting disease, which has been found in deer in surrounding states. Hunters seeking to have their harvested deer tested for CWD can complete a form on the LDWF website and then for the cost of $37.50 can have tissue from the animal tested at the nearest LDWF Field office.
