A bill has been filed in the regular session to legalize sports betting in Louisiana. The U-S Supreme Court could soon issue a ruling that legalizes sports betting across the country. New Roads Representative Major Thibaut says several other states are preparing to allow sports betting and he believes Louisiana should be prepared to regulate it too…
Under Thibaut’s bill, sports betting parlors would be allowed at the state’s four horse racing tracks in New Orleans, Vinton, Opelousas and Bossier City.
The Bonnet Carre Spillway will be opened for just the twelfth time today as the Mississippi River swells, and threatens to tops levees across southeast Louisiana. The spillway is expected to run at about half capacity for three weeks, and will drain the river into some of the 320 pods that are controlled by timber locks. Army Corps of Engineers Colonel Michael Clancy says The water will be released into Lake Ponchatrain, which has traditionally worried ecologists. Clancy says the Corps has a plan in place to make sure the damage is contain.
