Sophomore linebacker Whit Weeks is the SEC defensive player of the week after his career-high 18 tackles and defensive end Bradyn Swinson was named the league’s defensive lineman of the week after picking up two more sacks. The Tigers are at Arkansas on Saturday night.
In women’s basketball, LSU’s Flau’Jae Johnson and Aneesah Moore are the Preseason Co-SEC Player of the Year. The duo shared the honor with Texas’ Madison Booker. The preseason media poll has LSU finishing third, followed by South Carolina and Texas.
The popularity of Dennis Allen is at an all-time low among Who Dat Nation as the Saints are in a four-game losing streak. Allen’s predecessor, Sean Payton, will be back in the Superdome on Sunday as Payton’s Denver Broncos will take on the Black and Gold. Allen says it will be a challenge coaching against a New Orleans institution.
Seventeen players are listed on the injury report, but if New Orleans practiced yesterday, the Saints say Taysom Hill would have practiced. Allen also says Tyrann Mathieu will be fine after leaving yesterday’s game with a forearm injury.
Fresh off a win against Middle Tennessee last Thursday, Louisiana Tech is in action again tonight against New Mexico State. Bulldogs quarterback Evan Bullock was named Conference USA Player of the Week. Bullock accounted for six touchdowns last week and threw for 296 yards.
