The Saints fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter, rallied, but still lost to the Detroit Lions 33-28. But it was another slow start for the New Orleans defense as they allowed Detroit to march down the field on the opening drive to go up 7-0. The Lions scored two more touchdowns in the first quarter. For the third time this year, Saints quarterback Derek Carr was knocked out of the game as he was slammed down on the Superdome turf. The 32-year-old is back in concussion protocol and he also has shoulder and back injuries.
The 13th ranked LSU football team will play Wisconsin in the Reliaquest Bowl in Tampa on New Year’s Day. It’s the Tigers’ third appearance in the game and their first since 2013 when LSU defeated Iowa 21-14. Get ready for a lot of Texas fans in New Orleans for the New Year’s weekend. The Longhorns will play Washington in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s night. It’s a national semifinal game. The other semifinal is Michigan versus Alabama in the Rose Bowl. Florida State is not in the four-team playoff despite an undefeated season.
The Ragin Cajuns will play Jacksonville State in the New Orleans Bowl on December 16th. Tulane will face Virginia Tech in the Military Bowl on December 27th in Annapolis, Maryland, but Coach Wille Fritz has left the Greenies to be new head coach at Houston.
