The 19th ranked LSU baseball team might be getting hot at the right time as the Tigers hit three home runs for their third win in a row in a 7-1 victory against Auburn. Cade Beloso, Saul Garza and Antoine Duplantis each hit solo shots. Duplantis had two hits and two RBIs and Garza had three hits on the night.
Eric Walker was terrific on the mound. The right-hander allowed one earned run in six innings and he struck out five. LSU moves into 5th place in the SEC standings thanks to Tennessee’s seven to nothing win over Ole Miss.
ULM ended a 25-game losing streak to the Ragin Cajuns by beating UL-Lafayette six to three. Chad Bell belted a three-run homer and Trey Jeans, a former Cajun pitcher, struck out nine over seven innings.
Louisiana Tech blanked FIU 3-0 as senior Matt Miller threw a career high 8.2 innings to improve to 6-1. Braxton Smith earned his 10th save.
Southern rallied for four runs in the ninth and then won it in the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Hunter Hudson as the Jaguars defeated Texas Southern 10-to-9 to advance to the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament. A victory tonight and the Jags are in Sunday’s Tournament championship game. Grambling needs to beat Prairie View this morning to avoid elimination.
Preston Faulkner’s two-out, three-run homer gave Southeastern Louisiana an 8-6 win over Incarnate Word. The Lions remain one game back of first place in the Southland, because Sam Houston defeated Northwestern State 11-5. Nicholls now in 9th place in the Southland after losing 10-to-8 to Abilene Christian.
The NFL has suspended former LSU star and eight time pro bowl cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals, Patrick Peterson, for the first six games of the season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Peterson told reporters in Arizona he’s sorry for what happened, but didn’t get into specifics on what led to his suspension.
At LSU today, an NCAA Softball Regional gets underway today. The Fighting Tigers are the host school and will face Monmouth at 4:30. Starting at 2 PM, it will be Louisiana Tech versus Texas Texas. The Cajuns are in the Oxford Regional and UL-Lafayette takes on Southeast Missouri at 3:30.
