Northwestern State has canceled the remainder of its football season and head coach Brad Laird has resigned after Junior Safety Ronnie Caldwell was killed two weeks ago. In a Natchitoches Parish Journal podcast, NSU President Marcus Jones said several players expressed difficulty with Caldwell’s death.

The Demons were scheduled to play McNeese this Saturday in Lake Charles. No one has been charged in the murder of Caldwell, but one of his former teammates was arrested on obstruction of justice charges. And Coach Laird steps down in the midst of his sixth season. Northwestern was suffering through a winless season.

Some sort of illness is going through the Saints locker room. Marcus Maye, Max Garcia and Jimmy Graham were all listed on the injury report with an illness. Running back Alvin Kamara missed Wednesday’s practice because he was sick, but he returned yesterday.

Here’s a look at your college football schedule this Saturday…ULM will host Arkansas State for homecoming. The Red Wolves have defeated the Warhawks in 13 consecutive games. The LSU women’s basketball team was on the court last night in exhibition action and dismantled Division Three East Texas Baptist 99-26. Flau’jae Johnson had 18 points and seven steals, Angel Reese had 17 points and eight rebounds.
