The Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year Paxton Kling has removed his name from the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft so he can play baseball at LSU. Kling committed to LSU in 2019 and during his senior season he hit .585 with five home runs and 33 steals. He is rated as the 104th best prospect in M-L-B’s draft rankings.
La Tech football has received commitments from a pair of south Louisiana offensive linemen St. Aug’s Troy Smith and Woodlawn of Baton Rouge’s Roy Brackins.
The Southland Conference has released an updated football schedule that includes U-I-W and Lamar. The two Texas schools planned to play in the WAC this season, but recently decided they’ll compete in the Southland instead. U-I-W won the Southland last season and they’ll begin the conference play by visiting Southeastern on September 24th. That weekend Northwestern State will host Lamar.
The Pelicans defeated the Washington Wizards 106-88 in NBA Summer League Action last night. Jared Harper who played in the G-League last season, had 18 and six assists while undrafted Daeqwon Plowden had 16 points in 22 minutes. New Orleans is 2-1 in Las Vegas and will play Los Angeles tomorrow night.
The original “Voice of the Cajuns” Ron Gomez has passed away at the age of 87. Gomez called games for the Cajuns from 1961 to 1979 and then went into the state legislature and got behind legislation that led to the construction of the Cajundome.
Drew Brees is reportedly talking with Amazon to be part of an alternate broadcast for its slate of Thursday night games. Brees spent one season with NBC working Notre Dame games and serving as a studio analyst for NBC’s Sunday Night Football. According to NOLA-dot-com, Brees would be one of multiple former NFL quarterbacks part of a megacast for Thursday night games.
