LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is at the Senior Bowl this week to showcase his talents to NFL scouts, coaches, and general managers. Nussmeier battled an abdominal injury last season and says he’s worked hard to get back to 100-percent to participate in Mobile.

Cut 18 (11)  “…was a no-brainer.”

Going into the 2025 season, Nussmeier was a potential first-round pick, but after an injury-plagued season, he is now projected as a third to sixth-round pick.

Joe Brady, LSU’s passing game coordinator during the Tigers’ 2019 national championship, has landed a head coaching job at the age of 36. The Buffalo Bills promoted Brady after two seasons as their offensive coordinator.  Buffalo’s offense has been one of the best in the NFL since Brady took over as O-C.

A highly respected high school football coach has passed away. Former Jennings coach Rusty Phelps died late last week from a stroke at the age of 62. Phelps won over 200 games at Jennings and led the Bulldogs to a state championship game appearance in 2019. Former Eunice Coach Paul Trosclair, who coached against Phelps for many years, says Phelps meant a lot to the Jennings community.

Cut 17 (16)  “…teams played hard.”

Visitation is tonight, and funeral services are tomorrow in Jennings.

In college basketball last night, McNeese State dribbled past Southeastern Louisiana 76-66, UNO upended Nicholls 80 to 62, and Northwestern State came up a little short against the Lumberjacks, losing to Stephen F Austin 69 to 67.

The Pelicans lost to Oklahoma City 104 to 95.
