Pelicans guard Shaddiq Bey scored 23 first-quarter points, one shy of a New Orleans franchise record but that fast start did not result in a win for New Orleans as they lost to the Knicks 130-125. Bey finished with 26 points.

LSU men’s basketball finished non-conference play with a 12-1 record as the Tigers defeated Southern Miss 90 to 62. LSU is at Texas A-and-M on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech plays Coastal Carolina this afternoon in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. Senior defensive back Cedrick Woods wraps up his six-year college career today. It will be Woods’ 58th game with the Bulldogs, which is the most played by a single player in program history. Woods says he is blessed to have been able to play for so many years.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball won its Conference USA opener, beating UTEP 75-63.

McNeese lost to second ranked Michigan 112 to 71. Northwestern State fell to Lamar 76-71. Nicholls held on to beat Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi 76-71.
