State Officials are pleading with the public to observe the statewide burn ban as wildfires have caused significant damage.

The largest wildfire is in Beauregard Parish where more than 12-thousand acres have burned. The town of Merryville is under a voluntary evacuation order and now there is a mandatory evacuation for residents in the Singer area.

A new poll conducted last week by Faucheux Strategies and paid for by multiple media outlets shows Republican Jeff Landry remains a frontrunner with 36 percent of support in the governor’s race. Democrat Shawn Wilson is at 26 percent. All of the other candidates are polling in the single digits. Pollster Dr. Ron Faucheux says 14 percent of the voters are undecided

Faucheux says a big reason why Landry has a sizable lead in the polls is because he has the highest name recognition among the candidates.
