Students and teachers are returning to the classroom this week but, the teacher shortage remains a looming issue. Louisiana Federation of Teachers president Larry Carter says the shortage of instructors is extremely worrisome, especially for the teachers themselves.

Carter says in some districts he’s seen more than 150 vacancies for certified teachers.
Because Louisiana has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the country, the Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative is working with hospitals to encourage more mothers to breastfeed. It’s called The Gift and Medical Director of the Collaborative, Dr. Veronica Gillispie Bell says it’s important mothers breastfeed as soon as possible after birth.

Governor John Bel Edwards has toured flood control sites in three different areas in the Netherlands as he gets a first hand look at what the Dutch is doing to fight coastal land loss and prevent flooding from the rising sea level. Edwards will also spend a few days in France before returning home.
