The House has approved legislation giving the Insurance Commissioner the authority to reject rate increases deemed excessive. This proposal, backed by Governor Jeff Landry, was added to another insurance related bill and it passed on a 68-34 vote. As the legislature continues to debate a bill that, among other things, would ban SNAP recipients from using the money to buy soft drinks, Governor Landry is taking it one step further.
