According to the latest national survey of small business owners, optimism is the highest it’s been since June 2021. NFIB State Director Leah Long says challenges persist, however, as some owners reported unfilled job openings and inflation remains the top concern.

Long says positive changes include lowering the personal income tax and eliminating the inventory tax.

Two people walking along an unlit roadway in Concordia Parish last night were hit and killed. State Police say Carleen Smith of Farmerville and Donnie Free of Ferriday were walking in the roadway on U.S. Highway 84 near a convenience store when they were hit by an eastbound Chevy Journey and a westbound Dodge Challenger. It happened at around nine p-m – well after dark – and there are no street lights in the vicinity. The two were pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is still ongoing.
