Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton suffered a mid-foot sprain in Thursday’s preseason game against New England. The Panthers hope Newton will be ready for the regular-season opener.

A big college football game takes place on Saturday in Orlando at Camping World Stadium as 8th ranked Florida faces Miami. Also on Saturday, Arizona is at Hawaii for a game on the C-B-S Sports Network.

Mississippi State will start Penn State grad transfer Tommy Stevens at quarterback in its season opener against U-L Lafayette on August 31st. Stevens beat out former Landry-Walker star Keytoan Thompson.

During the day on Saturday Louisiana will face Hawaii in the U-S Finals of the Little League World Series. The team from River Ridge lost to Hawaii in its first game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, but since then the squad from suburban New Orleans has been untouchable. First pitch Saturday is at 2:30.
